Kofax PowerPDF - Interface

A clean interface allows you to devote most of your screen real estate to your documents (Image credit: Kofax)

Launch the PDF reader and editor and you will find the interface to be very clean and tidy. All of your tools are located at the top of the window. The main ones have large icons, while others located below are in a second, smaller toolbar. On the left is a sidebar, where you'll find large thumbnails of all the pages in the PDF.

If the tool you're looking for isn't visible, you'll probably find it in the menu bar. This is where, for example, you find the commands to import from a scanner or perform OCR.

The rest of the interface is dedicated to the PDF you have opened. Many competing programs would introduce a layer of tabs if you needed to open multiple documents at the same time. Kofax relies on the more traditional method of having each document open in its respective window. The main benefit would be if you need to move pages from one document to another. Separate windows make this process infinitely easier to do.

Rearranging pages is as easy as drag and drop (Image credit: Kofax)

If you're familiar with these PDF tools, you'll find the features instantly recognizable. Being able to convert Word to PDF, Excel to PDF and PowerPoint to PDF or retrieve files directly from your scanner is just a few clicks away. There is a browser extension available for Chrome and Edge that allows you to open and create PDF files directly from there.

But it's pretty basic stuff. What's more interesting is how you can edit an existing PDF, and Power PDF doesn't disappoint.

You'll find that many handy manipulations are possible, like dragging a page thumbnail from one document to the sidebar of another, for example. But it doesn't end there: if you need to rearrange the pages of a PDF, simply click on its thumbnail and drag it up or down in the list to change its position.

Right-click a thumbnail to access more commands, like rotating a page or even deleting it (although there are also handy keyboard shortcuts available to invoke these commands more quickly).
