JaxJox DumbbellConnect Adjustable Dumbbell Review

30 second review

The JaxJox DumbbellConnect Adjustable Dumbbells are hands down the best set we have reviewed to date. From their high-quality construction materials to the flawless (and simple) digital chainring shift feature, everything about these dumbbells is top notch. The accompanying app will also come in handy, especially if you're new to weights or need a little more motivation or guidance (but keep in mind that the video lessons in the app have an ongoing subscription cost).

The LCD display mounted on the front of each base allows you to select the weight of each dumbbell before use, and while we found this a bit awkward (we were using the floor base and would have found it easier to interact with a dumbbell) . top-mounted screen), is something you quickly get used to. For those considering a more permanent installation, a higher position might be better for easier use of the screen.

Changing the license plate is quick and easy, and the plates feel incredibly secure once they're on the barbell, more so than any other model we've tested. The metal handle is thick and ergonomic and the weights have a wonderfully low profile so they won't be bulky even when all the plates are loaded.

Price and Availability

At the time of writing, you can pick up a pair of JaxJox DumbbellConnect Adjustable Dumbbells for the retail price of just $299 (about $230 / AU$400), which sounds like a fantastic deal considering the quality of the equipment.

Not only is this adjustable dumbbell set the best we've tested, but at this price, it's also among the cheapest. It's a winning combination that you definitely shouldn't overlook in your search for the perfect combination of performance and value.

weight scale

DumbbellConnect dumbbells come in a variety of weights, but users of almost any ability will find this to be more than enough. Starting at 3kg, the dumbbells can be adjusted upwards in 3,6kg increments up to a maximum of 22,6kg.

Unlike some adjustable dumbbells, which use a tapered circular design, the JaxJox DumbbellConnects are round but flat, which means that for certain exercises like deadlifts or overhead triceps extensions, you can easily place them side by side. another with good stability for greater flexibility in the weight range.

Integrated

Despite some really useful technology, the dumbbells themselves don't look too flashy, instead they have a clean, simple style that will look great in any home gym. The minimalist design principles extend to the simple front-mounted LCD screen that has just two buttons, for weight up or down. As mentioned above, the plates are round and have a very low profile so they never feel bulky.

Unlike many adjustable dumbbells, the modular dumbbell design means the weights decrease in size as you load less weight, so working at the lower end of the range allows you to use dumbbells that are smaller and lighter. in weigh. Each plate also has a flat bottom, which means you'll always have a little more stability when performing renegade rows or similar exercises that require you to place your body weight on the dumbbells on the floor.

Finally, while the matte gray plastic design of the plates is fairly standard, the metal handle is sturdy and thick enough, an important design feature given that this is where the vast majority of your interactions with the dumbbell will take place.

Configuration and features

Most importantly, the JaxJox DumbbellConnect digital weight selection mechanism is easy to use and also very reliable. Use the two buttons on the LCD screen on the front of the base to increase or decrease the weight and wait a few seconds. The base will beep (loud enough for you to hear in your AirPods) to confirm that the desired weight has been safely loaded. From this moment you are ready to go.

The companion app is also useful, although you have to pay a monthly subscription to get the most out of it. But you can still link the free version to your smartwatch and get free performance and skills tracking video tutorials and training, which isn't bad when you pay nothing for the service. The paid subscription will add a large number of pre-recorded video courses for you to access. We have tried some and they are of very good quality. If nothing else, the one-month free trial will show you how to get the most out of your dumbbells, especially if you don't have a lot of experience.
