Jamf Adds Endpoint and Network Security Tools for Business Macs

Jamf announced a series of significant updates to Jamf Protect, introducing a unique set of technologies designed to make corporate devices more secure while identifying and responding to incoming endpoint threats. The company has also introduced Jamf Trust, which aims to make this type of security easy to use. (The latter is also available for Android and Windows).

What's new in Jamf Protect?

The big news for Mac security, Jamf Protect now offers a comprehensive endpoint and network security solution, complementing your existing protections with new tools to:

Jamf Protect is a powerful tool and provides a comprehensive solution for protecting Mac endpoints. It is supported by the company's own in-house team of security researchers. Used alone, it can prevent and quarantine malware; when used with JamfPro for MDM, it can do more to protect deployments, including blocking or removing compromised Macs.

Why are these Jamf moves important?

Apple's business market is much larger today than it has been in decades, with its products used by most of the world's largest companies and a growing prominence in small businesses. IDC recently reported that the Mac has become the world's fastest-growing computer among businesses, with iPhones and iPads also becoming widely used.

Particularly during the pandemic, this has led businesses to recognize the need to protect these Apple devices, supplementing the platform's industry-leading security with additional protection. Zero-trust, location-specific, and user-bound single sign-on approaches have evolved rapidly over the past two years.

These latest new features add an element of automated situational awareness to the mix, which is a promising technology for fleet security.

New on the Block: Trust and Security on the Internet

JamfTrust is designed to be an easy-to-use, employee-focused application that gives your staff access to powerful security features without impacting performance or productivity. It provides workflows related to the company's suite of security products and aims to remove the friction that employees may experience when using them.

The company plans to release JamfTrust for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, and Windows systems next month.

The company has also beefed up Internet protection with its K12/student education product, Jamf Safe Internet. It combines content filtering and network threat prevention features, including the ability to protect users against malware and phishing attacks.

The company claims that it will filter the results without invading privacy or affecting the learning experience. It should be available for macOS and iOS in the summer.

What jamf says

"Organizations shouldn't have to choose between comprehensive security and exceptional ease of use in today's work environments," said Michael Covington, vice president of portfolio strategy at Jamf, in a statement. “That's why we're excited to expand the security capabilities available on the easy-to-use, secure enterprise platform our customers know and love.

Jamf is on a roll as Apple's business stake grows. Not only does it now protect more than 26 million devices, but the company also recently introduced two new Apple management tools: one to simplify and automate Mac app installations in businesses, another to manage and protect Apple devices in SMEs.

We are seeing a rapid increase in activity in the Apple integration space as MDM providers strive to serve this growing market.
