Logic dictates that many people don't need a new charger when they buy a new phone, like if you buy an iPhone 12, you're probably upgrading to an older iPhone that uses the same Lightning connector. The phone is likely to be slightly cheaper to make up for the lack of a built-in charger, allowing people who really need it to buy it themselves. Also, it would reduce e-waste, since there would be fewer unnecessary chargers that would go unused. However, this lack of a charger is not a sure thing: since we heard the rumors that the iPhone 12 would come without a charger, we have heard more about it. There haven't been as many rumors of EarPods being abandoned as the charger, but if something goes missing from the box, EarPods make more sense: people are more likely to buy earphones separately than they are.
