On April 1, 2020, Netflix got all six seasons of Community, the NBC (and later Yahoo) sitcom with Joel McHale. It's not just Netflix in the US: wherever you are, Netflix will drop all six seasons so you can get over it. The show won't leave Hulu in the US, where it's been a mainstay since 2016, as the Netflix deal wouldn't be exclusive. Community is one of the best sitcoms of the last 20 years, and has already aired in a block with 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, and The Office. As a recent Reddit post suggested, it was certainly a contender for best TV party ever. The community involves a study group at Greendale, a dilapidated community college. What starts out as a fairly conventional sitcom, rich with pop culture references to campus escapades, evolves into something more ambitious in its second season. This follows a memorable first-season finale episode involving a college-wide paintball fight, which turns the series into a hilarious riff on action movies like Die Hard (directed by Fast and Furious mastermind) Justin Lin, nothing less). This sets the template for upcoming high-concept episodes, such as a musical episode or an episode focused on a Dungeons and Dragons game. It's not all gold – season four is notoriously wrong after a major writers room change, and season six is generally bad – but it's a perfect sight to see if you're going to be spending a lot of time inside over the next few months. You may find yourself replaying the entire run over and over again.
