Huawei Mate Xs could be smaller, stronger and cheaper than Huawei Mate X

We know that Huawei is working on a new foldable phone dubbed the Huawei Mate Xs, but now we're also hearing that it could be cheaper than the original Huawei Mate X. According to supply chain sources speaking to Yesky (a Chinese smartphone news site), they say the screen is now easier to produce, thus reducing the cost of manufacturing the phone. It's unclear if these savings will be passed on to consumers, but given the prohibitive cost of most foldable phones, it would make sense for Huawei to cut prices as much as possible. Meanwhile, MyDrivers (another Chinese tech news site), apparently citing the same sources, adds that the size of the Mate Xs will be smaller than the original Mate X. However, the wording suggests that the screen could stay roughly the same size (ie around eight inches), so the Mate X could achieve this by having smaller glasses. Sources also say that the Huawei Mate Xs will be more durable than its predecessor, saying that a third Huawei foldable will land in the second half of 2020.

Soon, but probably not everywhere.

As for when you can buy the Mate Xs, sources reiterate that it will go on sale in March, at least in China; Huawei has already said so, which suggests the date hasn't changed. It should be announced at MWC 2020 at the end of February. As always, we'd take all these claims with a pinch of salt for now, but if Huawei makes its next smaller, tougher, and cheaper foldable, then it could be a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, which is rumored to see similar changes. , and is also expected to be announced in February. Of course, with Huawei's ban still in place, Samsung's phone will certainly become more widely available. Via GSM Arena
