Huawei Mate X is on sale in China and sells its first batch in minutes

The first wave of Huawei Mate X folding phones finally went on sale in China, and the first batch (of an uncertain quantity) would have been sold within minutes, according to the BBC.

The foldable phone was unveiled at MWC 2019 in February and was originally scheduled for launch this summer, then publicly postponed until September. TheComparison only learned in August that it was impossible to set such a deadline and that it would be much more likely to be available in November (and at least by the end of 2019).

That's what happened after Huawei officially launched the folding disk in China in October and announced that it would go on sale in November, which it has already done, priced at 16.999 yuan. (€ 1,900, approximately € 2,495 / AU € 3,559).

A second wave of devices (still an uncertain number) will go on sale in China on November 22. But there is still no announced plan to bring the device to other regions.

A future for foldable Huawei?

Huawei delayed the Huawei Maw X several months after the Samsung Galaxy Fold abandoned its launch in April due to sustainability concerns, though the former company gave no reason for delaying the Mate X - so it's hard to know if they've found Similar reliability issues. It just didn't want to share Samsung's fate, because the public's confidence in foldable objects had been shaken.

By contrast, the initial delay in June followed the Huawei ban in the United States. As this has not been repealed, but was temporarily canceled in August and is due to expire today, there are no plans for Mate X to come to the United States.

Huawei says the Mate X will come to countries other than China at some point, according to the BBC. In any case, the company has already revealed a successor, the Huawei Mate Xs, which will ship the latest Kirin 990 chip (we don't know when it will be released).
