Hogwarts Legacy State of Play airs this week

Hogwarts Legacy will receive a dedicated State of Play preview stream on March 17.

The 20-minute stream will feature over 14 minutes of the upcoming Harry Potter game running on a PS5, with some insights from some of the developers behind the game.

You can catch the State of Play at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 9pm GMT on the PlayStation Twitch channel or on YouTube.

The preview follows last week's Japan-focused State of Play, which revealed a slew of upcoming PS4 and PS5 releases, including Exoprimal, Valkyrie Chronicles, and a co-op expansion for Returnal.

He also gave us a pre-release trailer for Ghostwire: Tokyo, which is due out on March 25.

Analysis: what can we expect?

After its official announcement in 2020, Hogwarts Legacy remained a mystery. The open-world RPG is set in the titular Wizarding School in the XNUMXth century and will have you exploring familiar locations from the Harry Potter books and film series. You will create potions, cast spells and improve your magical abilities while fighting against the forces of dark wizards.

However, with only one trailer revealed so far, Harry Potter fans will be excited to see the game in action. Even a quarter of an hour is likely to give us a better understanding of the game's combat, character creation, and traversing the open world.

Although Hogwarts Legacy will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, this Sony State of Play could deepen its PlayStation-exclusive features, such as the use of haptic feedback and adaptive DualSense triggers.

Of course, it's also possible that State of Play will reveal the game's release date, which was originally set for 2021 before being pushed back to this year. It still looks like a closed post window. In a Twitter thread earlier in the year, the WarnerMedia CEO reiterated the publisher's plans to release the game in 2022, and this upcoming State of the Game all but confirms that the game's release is on the horizon.

We wouldn't be surprised if this dedicated showcase finally revealed the release date of the long-awaited game.

Hogwarts Legacy has drawn controversy over its connection to Harry Potter creator JK Rowling, who has received widespread criticism over the past two years for allegedly making transphobic comments. An FAQ on the game's official site states that "JK Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game," while a Bloomberg report suggests that Hogwarts Legacy will feature cross-inclusion character creation options. Bloomberg says the push for inclusion arose in reaction to Rowling's comments.
