Here are our favorite movies based on games.

Movies based on games are often frowned upon by fans as the adaptation is not what they expected most of the time. Many enthusiasts clamor for a convenient adaptation of the game for consoles, but Hollywood often produces less than desirable results.

That said, we've seen some passable game movies in recent years. Even movies that critics dismissed as bad have proven to be beloved by fans or have achieved cult status in the years since their release.

This year we are going to see 2 great Naughty Dog games that are now being shaped into a movie and a TV show. Uncharted, starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, is set to hit theaters in February, while The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal and Preciosa Ramsey, will start as an HBO series later this year.

The film follows a group of people living in a small town in Vermont who become trapped during a blizzard at a local inn. Dread strikes when an enigmatic creature begins to terrify the community, and everyone begins to suspect that someone among them is a werewolf.

Although not liked by critics, this spin-off of the popular game franchise is still revered as one of the first films to feature photorealistic animation. It was also one of the most expensive game movies released at the time. The film tells the story of a scientist preparing for the invasion of Earth by alien specters.

CAPCOM's original game adaptation, starring Milla Jovovich, is the highest-grossing game movie franchise. Focusing more on the action than on the horror elements typical of the franchise, it tells the story of Alice, a former Umbrella Corporation operator who has the mission of preventing them from continuing to destroy the planet that is now devastated by the living dead.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Critics pounced on this film after its release, but Angelina Jolie was the right person to play Lara Croft. Holding the exact same elements from the original Tomb Raider game, this movie follows Lara as she collects old instruments while being hunted down by the Illuminati. Fans loved Jolie's performance so much that a sequel was fast-tracked a couple of years later.

The film follows a plot similar to that of the video game: a mother travels through a small town in search of her daughter after the two are involved in a car accident. She then discovers that the site keeps a dark secret to which they are linked and her daughter. While it didn't make much money at the box office, fans praised the faithful recreation of the game's elements, including the gruesome creatures lurking there.

While the film is only loosely based on the original console game, the film brought new elements to the story that make it more of a Hollywood epic. Dwayne Johnson stars in this action-adventure about a primatologist who teams up with his gorilla friend to try to stop massive mutated animals from tearing Chicago apart.

But the XNUMX version of Mortal Kombat did indeed deliver the action and the fatalities, fulfilling the wishes of fans who wanted to see a real live-action version. The film introduces a new character, Cole Young, who has been summoned to be a part of Mortal Kombat to save Earthrealm from the outer planet.

He brought back the voice of the original, including Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad and Danny McBride. In the film, the birds are forced to team up with the pigs when a new weapon threatens their homes.
