Heardle is like Wordle, but for music: that's how it's played

The Wordle craze continues, not only in terms of the original game itself, but also with the spin-offs that continue to proliferate around it. The latest comes from the Omakase software studio and is called Heardle.

In a nutshell, it's Wordle for music: you get a few seconds of a song intro and have to guess what it's about. For each incorrect guess, more time is added to the clip. You can also skip a try to get an extra second. As with Wordle, you need to get the answers right in six times or less.

Some features make the game a bit easier than it would be otherwise. First of all, the songs you have to guess are chosen from the most played songs over the last decade, so they should all be relatively well known.

Second, when you start typing your answer, you'll see some possible matches: if the clue you're guessing isn't in the database, you won't be able to select it. This saves you from a wrong assumption and should give you better luck.

A new challenge every day

As with Wordle, you can share your results on social networks using the familiar color blocks. You can track your streaks and there is a new challenge every day. The game can be played on any device with a web browser.

Based on information provided with the game, it doesn't appear that copyright permission has been granted for this: all included songs are available to stream freely on Soundcloud, and only 30 seconds of each play (if you guess right).

We'll have to wait and see if Heardle can get some of the attention Wordle has received. The five-letter pun took the internet by storm and was eventually picked up by The New York Times for a seven-figure sum.

Despite the similarities, Heardle is something very different, not only in the knowledge she needs, but also in how the answer is revealed. It's probably not the last online game looking to tap into the craze created by Wordle.
