Halo Infinite could see the return of a divisive multiplayer mode

Halo Infinite could be preparing a new multiplayer mode to add to its ranks as well as mainstays like Slayer, Capture the Flag and Strongholds, while a recent leak suggests that Halo XNUMX's large-scale shard-fest Warzone could return with a touch of battle royale.

As reported by Wccftech, the details come from Notable Halo News and the Halo Hub leaker on Twitter. The popular insider account tweeted that it had received screenshots showing a settings menu, with some of the modifiers within it suggesting battle royale-style elements such as drop-down pods. However, Halo Hub stated that they don't expect the mode to launch anytime soon.

🔥 BIGGER NEWS! 👀 It seems that a successor to Halo five Warzone with peculiarities related to Battle Royale is being worked on. We've been getting these screenshots lately and we know others have too. Naturally, it is always and in all circumstances worth saying that leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, which indeed applies to the details above. While the screenshot above is indeed punchy in its appearance, in that it accurately depicts Halo Infinite's font, menu layout, and background, it could very well be a mockup.

That said, this isn't the first time we've heard gossip of a battle royale-style mode coming to Halo Infinite. Already before the game's release on Xbox Series X/S and PC last year, dataminers were able to find evidence of a possible future Battle Royale addition in the game's code. It is indeed possible that Vision of Infinite in Warzone of Halo five be the fruit of this test

Other leaks have suggested that Certain Affinity, a studio that has worked on Halo content in the past, could be leading a battle royale project for Halo Infinite. With the growing evidence, then, it seems that we could be close to discovering whether or not the popular multiplayer shooter is going to have its Battle Royale mode.

Analysis: Does Halo Infinite Need a Battle Royale?

It's easy to think that Halo Infinite doesn't necessarily need a Battle Royale component to be successful. The game's strong set of multiplayer modes has kept players coming back since launch, but it's worth noting that player numbers dropped steadily over the ensuing months, with the uninspired battle pass, inconsistent progression, and the "FOMO" (fear of missing out). events that cause players to rebound and find their shot solution elsewhere.

A mode as substantial as a Battle Royale could prove to be a tonic for Halo Infinite players' downsides, which could give the Spartans a reason to line up en masse for a subtly different flavor of Halo.

However, if Halo 3's Warzone is the blueprint for this unannounced mode, that worries us. In Halo 8, Warzone took on XNUMX teams of XNUMX people and an entourage of AI opponents to oversee a large map.

In theory, this sounds great, but the mode's ties to consumable cards and heavy microtransaction implementation clouded what could have been great diversion from Slayer's frequent ranked playlists.

Implementing a Battle Royale mode in Halo Infinite could also prove to be a logistical nightmare. Would mode progression be tied to existing battle passes or would it have its progression system entirely? Could the game engine handle countless Spartans, mixed with cars and AI opponents? How would you balance outrageously powerful weaponry in a game mode that often sends you back to the hall of death?

If you're working on a Halo Infinite version of Warzone (which we imagine is going to be called something else, thanks to the existence of Call of Duty: Warzone), then you'll need to take all this and more into consideration, all to be entertaining enough for its merits to separate enthusiasts from modes with which they are comfortable.

Kicking off in May XNUMX, Halo Infinite's Season Two Battle Pass has had very few details revealed thus far, let alone a substantial new mode. As such, we're inclined to think of Halo Hub that while a Halo Infinite Battle Royale is in development, it's effectively not going to release any time soon.
