Green covers for mobile phones available in SA
When it comes to technology, we rarely hear the term "environmentally friendly." If you are environmentally conscious or looking to go green in some way, an eco-friendly cell phone case may be right for you. The nature of technology is harmful to the environment. Consumers are constantly upgrading and throwing away their devices. Consistent innovation beckons us with little time to pause and think: what does that do to Earth's resources? Many may not want to kick the habit of replacing "old" technology, but some liberties can be taken. A small and shocking move to replace your phone's plastic casing with an eco-friendly one is just the tip of the iceberg. If you live in the suburbs and don't have a cell phone case, consider purchasing a plastic alternative, as the device will cost more to replace. In South Africa there are several plastic alternatives. From biodegradable envelopes to those made from recycled materials, there are a wide variety of options. We live in a world where we have to wake up and re-evaluate our plastic consumption. With these cases you can protect your phone and give back to the planet.

Pela offers biodegradable iPhone cases dating back to the iPhone 5, Samsung and Google Pixel and limited Huawei devices. Additionally, the company sells cases for AirPods, smartwatch bands, and other accessories so you can match your case if you want. The cases are incredibly sleek and stylish and perform well in drop tests. Each accessory is plant-based and compostable. The company also donates 5% of its total sales to environmental charities to help conserve the natural world. The wide range of models gives more tech consumers the opportunity to be environmentally conscious, but the 15% import cost in South Africa must also be taken into account.

The case of the loop

This is Africa's first 100% compostable sustainable phone case. The cases are made from renewable materials so you can start living your best green life. The cases are available for the iPhone 6, 7, 8 and 11 and are available to purchase from Shop Zero for R350. The sleeve is made primarily from a plant material called PLA which is made from a combination of bamboo fiber and corn starch, as well as calcium carbonate and cellulose. The phone is durable and will protect your phone for about two years. After that you can place it in a composting environment so it can break down naturally. Don't worry, it cannot disintegrate outside of a composting environment.
