Google Pixel Watch could have a camera to take selfies with smartwatch

The Google Pixel Watch is a long-rumored smartwatch that we hope to see a bit more of in the near future. A patent recently filed by Google suggests that the company develops new ideas.

The patent, spotted by Dutch blog LetsGoDigital, shows the Google Pixel Watch roughly from different angles: It doesn't tell us much, but there's one big feature it teases; a camera.

In the center of the watch face shown in the patents, where the hands meet on an analog watch, you can see a small target. We don't know any details, like the sensor, aperture, or number of megapixels, but it does show that Google is considering at least giving the Pixel Watch the ability to take photos.

Smartwatches with cameras aren't really a new phenomenon; The Nubia Alpha, released in early 2019, was equipped with a 5MP camera.

We found the Nubia Alpha's camera to be okay in terms of image quality when viewed in camera. I could easily export images to a smartphone app, but it was difficult to hold a laptop at the proper angle to take any type of image.

So we're not convinced that smart cameras are really necessary, but Google is a software pioneer and highly respected hardware software. He could find a way to operate a camera on his wrist.

Hopefully we'll find out soon, but we've been hearing about the Google Pixel Watch for over a year now, and if Google still files patents for the laptop, it means they're not there. He still opted for a final design.
