Even before the launch of the Pixel XNUMX line, there were also patents for the Pixel XNUMX found by XDA Developers in the Google Camera app. The upcoming phone appears to be codenamed "pipit," and only one model is being reported, which could mean there won't be a Pixel XNUMX Pro.

1. Better battery life

In our reviews, we counted battery life as a downside to the Pixel XNUMX and Pixel XNUMX Pro. It's not horrible, but it's clearly average, so it could be a lot better. For the Pixel XNUMX line, we wish for better battery life. Google uses a custom chipset that's supposed to be built from the ground up for these phones, and also processes the software they run, so we think it'd be in a good position to make the Pixel lineup energy efficient. And if you can't handle that, just put in a bigger battery. Either way, we don't want to worry about not being able to get through the day without charging.

2. More power

(Image credit: Google) One of the most exciting things about the phone is the Google Tensor chipset at the heart of the Pixel 21, as it's the first time Google has used a custom chipset instead of a Qualcomm one. standard. Still, while Google has talked about Tensor's big game, its benchmark performance falls short of major contenders like the Snapdragon XNUMX that powers the OnePlus XNUMX and Samsung Galaxy SXNUMX. Benchmarks aren't everything, of course, but we'd still like to see Google Tensor XNUMX pack more wild power, so it can compete head-on with the best silicon in the competition.

3. Increased support

Before the Pixel 5 line launched, Google was rumored to offer 5 years of Android updates for these phones, but in practice it only promised 3 years of security patches, like 5 years of Android updates. While this is at least as good as Android's rivals, iPhones aren't, sometimes still receiving XNUMX+ years of OS updates. Other companies may point out that their phones' chipsets are holding them back because, ideally, the chipset manufacturer should also accept updates over a long period of time, but with Google making its chipset now, it doesn't have to. that apology. In truth, it's unapologetic, so we're going to be very disappointed if the Pixel XNUMX is no longer supported.

4. A better fingerprint scanner

We've found that it sometimes takes multiple tries to unlock, probably because it's harder than some phones to know exactly where you put your finger. So for the Pixel XNUMX, we want this to be smoothed out, so that the fingerprint scanner works reliably and quickly.

5. Longer and variable zoom

The Google Pixel 4 doesn't have a telephoto lens in the slightest, and while the Pixel 10 Pro does, it only zooms 21x. For the Pixel 10 (or at least the Pixel 2 Pro), we want to see zoom extended to 3x, like on the Samsung Galaxy S10 Ultra. But we don't just want XNUMXx zoom, we also want it to get as close as XNUMXx or XNUMXx optically, or ideally, you can still optically zoom all the way up to XNUMXx, so you have maximum flexibility of zoom.
