Google Pixel 4a loses points on a perforated screen without a Soli chip
The Google Pixel 4 series has disappointed many potential buyers with a fairly small upgrade at a not-so-small price. Leak renderings of the Pixel 4a suggest that Google could fix some of them with its future mid-range. Earlier this year, Google introduced the Pixel 3a, which brought legendary Pixel cameras and software expertise to the budget segment, and has become a better-received smartphone in many markets. Since the Pixel 4 wasn't a runaway hit this year and didn't make it to India, we expect Google to try to improve the more affordable Pixel 4a and win back lost customers.

Google Pixel 4a leaked design

91mobiles was able to get a bunch of renderings of the upcoming Pixel 4a, giving us a good idea of what to expect. The display is the most notable change, as it appears to be adopting a larger screen (than the Pixel 3a) with a punch-hole notch for the selfie camera rather than the aging approach to the chunky front we've seen on the Pixel 4. confirms that the Project Soli and Motion Sense sensor network has disappeared. While this may seem like a slowdown, it will make the Pixel 4a eligible for sale in countries like India. The existence of a rear fingerprint reader reinforces this presumption. The back of this particular model just has a matte finish throughout, with the familiar squirrel camera bump in the top left corner. Only one camera sensor can be seen in these renderings, but the OnLeaks leak suggests there will be additional sensors. If the same design reaches the end units, the other sensor could be a laser AF module that is generally indistinguishable from a black surface. The bottom will house the USB Type-C connector while the headphone jack returns, at the top.

For starters, the Snapdragon 730 or 765 are likely candidates to power this device, with at least 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The same 12.2-megapixel main camera on the back and a 3000 mAh battery. Perhaps, we will also see 5G capabilities. The Pixel 4a is perhaps the only way for India to discover all the latest photography capabilities of the Google phone.
