Google Chat gets an essential security update
Data loss prevention is of the utmost importance to companies, so Google is launching a new beta version to add data loss prevention (DLP) to Google chat. The search giant announced the beta version at its Google Cloud Next '21 virtual event this week in a bid to prevent sensitive and proprietary information from leaking out of organizations. By adding DLP to Google Chat, administrators will be able to create tailored policies to prevent leaks of sensitive data when using Google's online cooperation software.

At the time of signing up for the new beta, Google Workspace admins can choose to monitor for DLP violations, or they can directly prevent end users from sending restricted content. They will also be alerted in the event of a breach of the rules so that they can quickly investigate and take action. This feature will be disabled by default, but it can be enabled at the domain, organizational unit, or set level, according to a new update from the Google Workspace weblog. Administrators can create DLP rules from the Admin Console by going to Security and looking for the Data Protection option. Organizations that wish to further protect their workplace communication through Google chat can sign up here to participate in the beta version. This feature will likely roll out to all Google Workspace users when the beta concludes, but Google has yet to set a date for when that will happen.
