Google's new Nest Hub may feature Soli radar-based gesture support
With the help of the Soli radar sensor present in the Pixel 4 smartphone, Google envisioned that users could change tracks, increase or decrease the volume using airborne gestures. However, everyone thought it was weird to use gestures when holding the phone. Also, the sensors were not always able to capture the correct command, making this functionality unnecessary. As a result, the Pixel 5 was announced but without those sensors and that made a lot of sense. However, it appears that Google is working on a new smart device with a larger screen than a Soli radar-equipped smartphone.

Google Nest con Soli

(Image credit: FCC) According to an FCC listing, spotted by AndroidPolice, an interactive device called the A4R-G4CVZ is in the works, and while little information is available about it, it's clear that this new device has the new technology. Soli based on Google radar and is Zigbee compatible. While the listing removes most of the identifiable information about this new device, it does give many hints that this device uses 14v power, which precludes the scope of portability. The listing also indicates that this device is compatible with the 60GHz frequencies used by Google's Soli radars. With portability out of the equation, this internet-enabled device could be a new Nest Hub-like gadget that stays parked in your living room, kitchen, or office. It also makes sense that a smart home device would be equipped with gesture controls rather than a smartphone. Changing tracks simply by waving your hand in front of the screen, even when your hands are dirty from cooking, might be the best use case for this technology. With the limited amount of information we have, we can only assume it could be a Nest Hub or a next-generation Google Nest smart display that could be announced with upcoming Pixel devices, including we've heard of it.
