God of War: Ragnarok is coming up and you can expect it to land on PS5 consoles in 2021. Sony released a teaser for the God of War sequel at the end of its price/release date reveal event, confirming what everyone was expecting. we've been waiting for: a return of Kratos and his son, and still in the world of Norse mythology visited in the previous game. . Not much is known about the game yet, other than that it's coming, and it's going to be called Ragnarok, the name of a series of cataclysmic events in Norse mythology, which is fitting for a game where you're almost certain to wreak havoc and kill. to the nordic Gods. God of War: Ragnarok was briefly teased at the end of the PS5 Showcase event on September 16, where Sony also announced the price and release date of the next-gen PS5 console. Cory Barlog also changed his Twitter header to redacted Latin script, and his Twitter avatar to an image of ice cream. This suggests that we are moving further north and into cooler climes... Jobs
As GamesRadar noted, SIE Santa Monica Studio last year posted job openings for various positions within its programming, art, design, and tech art teams, a list that clearly cites the God of War reboot. Aspiring Senior Combat Designer "Must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and be able to discuss combat systems, mechanics, and enemies in depth." A listing for Facial Blend Shape Character Artist also specifically mentions "the next-generation gaming platform experience" for the role: something that should narrow down potential applicants to relatively few animators, given that the next generation of consoles has yet to be released. . The waters have been mixed a bit with a post from Senior Gameplay Animator, asking for someone to "help us push the limits of combat action and movement and set the bar for gaming feel on the PS4." In April 2019, a new dynamic theme appeared on PS4 to celebrate the anniversary of the God of War reboot. The theme featured Kratos and Atreus rowing, but the theme contained a secret message (discovered by eagle-eyed God of War fans on Reddit). The boat the pair are rowing in has runes etched into the side that translate to "Ragnarok is coming," which we now know is a good official catchphrase for the game. God of War director Corey Barlog said there were initially plans for DLC for the 2018 reboot, but said they were halted for being "too ambitious." This means that the studio can invest resources in an entirely new game, as opposed to post-launch content. God of War (2018) PS5 Update
To make waiting for God of War: Ragnarok a bit easier, Sony Santa Monica released a God of War update for the PS5 that ups the game's resolution to checkered 4K resolution while maintaining a 60fps target. Hopefully that means Ragnarok will continue the nice trend of more PS5 games hitting 60fps, even if that means compromising or slightly downsizing to achieve it.
God of War 2: what we want to see
At the end of God of War, we find out that Kratos's wife (and Atreus's mother) Faye was actually a giant named Laufey. This means that Atreus is half God and half Giant, and on top of that, he has a completely different name: Loki. You already know Loki, the trickster from Norse mythology. Hopefully God of War 2 explores this in more depth and we learn more about Faye's secret past, as well as why she kept everything a secret in the first place. We also expect Atreus to embrace the shape-shifting abilities Loki is famous for rather than stand on the sidelines shooting arrows at enemies. Atreus is no longer a child
