Gmail's dark mode is coming to iOS and Android, and here's how to turn it on.

The dark mode trend shows no signs of slowing down and Gmail is the latest app to receive the now-mandatory redo.

It has been several months since iOS 13 and Android 10 arrived, with their system-wide dark modes, but despite its immense popularity on both operating systems, Gmail was one of the last top apps to receive a new color scheme.

Google began rolling out Gmail's new dark mode in September, warning that it would take several weeks to distribute to all users, but it seems that this date has finally arrived. As long as your phone has the latest operating system, this new option belongs to you.

Turn to the dark side

To test it out, first make sure you have the latest version of Gmail (go to its Google Play Store or App Store page if in doubt) and relaunch the app if it's already open.

If you have enabled the dark theme across the Android 13 system, the app should automatically switch to its new look. You can also activate it manually by tapping the menu icon in the upper left corner, scrolling the screen, and selecting "Settings", then "General Settings." Here you can change the Gmail theme to light, dark, or default.

The process is almost identical for iOS 13: activate the dark mode of your operating system and Gmail will change to match automatically, or press the hamburger menu of the application, select "Settings", then press "Theme", then on "Dark ".
