Gigabyte's G5 and G7 gaming laptops look to target Zoomer's market

Gigabyte has announced the launch of two new gaming laptops, the 5-inch Gigabyte G15 and the 7-inch Gigabyte G17. Both are equipped with an Intel Core i5 processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050, RTX 3050 Ti or RTX 3060 graphics card.

According to the company, these particular laptops were designed for multitasking and can not only balance work or school tasks with decent gaming performance, but are also 22% lighter than previous generations. It also includes a Thunderbolt 4-compatible USB Type-C port, as well as a PCIe Gen4-compatible SSD slot. While these new laptops are powered by a 5th Gen Intel Core i12 processor, they only have DDR4 RAM.

This isn't Gigabyte's first foray into the laptop market in 2022, with an earlier version of the Gigabyte Aorus 17. This was a purely dedicated high-end gaming laptop, while the G5 and G7 are machines. of hybrid games also destined to chew the work. , school, and games and spit them out (within reason, of course).

At this time, there is no confirmed release date or price for any of the configurations listed in Gigabyte's press release (opens in a new tab), but given the specs, we suspect the price will be under €1500. range.

Analysis: Entering the casual market

It makes sense that Gigabyte is trying to get some of what it even calls "Gen Z" gamers, as COVID-19 has completely upended the PC and laptop markets.

While dedicated gaming laptops still have a dedicated following, there is a much greater need for laptops that can serve as work machines for the remote worker, while remaining affordable. The G5 and G7 are trying to capture this occasional emerging market made up of a large number of Zoomers.

We'll have to wait and see if they stack up against the best thin and light gaming laptops, and if Gen Z eventually bites.
