Games Workshop has two unannounced Warhammer games in development

Two unannounced Warhammer video games are currently in development, adding to an already packed launch schedule for the beloved franchise.

While Warhammer 40,000 Darktide will be the next game set in the grimdark universe to be released on PC and Xbox Series X|S, Warhammer fans will have plenty more games to play in the coming months. In its annual earnings report (opens in a new tab), franchise owner Games Workshop hinted at what's to come.

“New games due for release in 2022/23 include the major franchises Warhammer 40,000: Darktide and Blood Bowl 3, plus four more still awaiting release dates,” the report says. "In total, there are 12 new games in development and four new licenses were signed during the year."

At this point, 10 Warhammer games are known to be in development, leaving two titles on Games Workshop's list of 12 games yet to be announced.

A host of games were revealed during June's Warhammer Skulls showcase, including the first Warhammer 40k RPG Rogue Trader; Hand drawn Boltgun Doom clone; Shoot'em-up 2D Shootas, Blood & Teef; and the digital trading card game Warpforge.

On top of that, mobile strategy game Tacitus is scheduled to release on August 15, fantasy sports game Blood Bowl 3 is due for release later this year, and Darktide is also on the horizon. The highly anticipated FPS Space Marine 2 was also announced last year, although no release date was revealed.

Two Warhammer fantasy games are also known to be in development. Total War Battles: Warhammer will attempt to recreate the spirit of Creative Assembly's acclaimed turn-based strategy series on mobile platforms. It is developed by NetEase, co-developer of Diablo Immortal, but does not yet have a release date. An unnamed multiplayer RPG set in the Mortal Realms of Age of Sigmar is also on the way from Nexon. Few details about this game have been made public, apart from the fact that it will include live service elements and a social PvE world.

Fans will be eager to find out what the other two unannounced Warhammer games are like. Many are expecting another pair of big-budget triple-A games set in the bleak universe. However, it's not unlikely that both will be mobile games, adding to the growing pile of poorly designed Warhammer spin-offs.

Developers will have no shortage of source material to mine. Although the Warhammer games of recent years have been more experimental in their settings, many are still firmly rooted in the family ranks of the Imperium. Age of Sigmar fans and Xenos enthusiasts might pay more attention as the popularity of the franchise grows.

Games Workshop's revenue report reveals one last interesting tidbit about their upcoming releases. He estimates that Space Marine 2 "has been the most requested game since the first game was released in 2011." Even the highly anticipated but slightly disappointing Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3 apparently couldn't knock it off its pedestal. It's a lot to experiment.
