Game of Thrones prequel: Bloodmoon release date, news, rumors and distribution

After the dramatic end of Game of Thrones in May, many of us find a Jon Snow-shaped hole in our hearts.

You may not be dreaming of the return of winter for long, with the announcement of the pre-release broadcast of Game of Thrones in 2020, with a new distribution and a new plot.

Set some 5000 years before the events of GoT, the new series should take place in Age of Heroes, a period that saw the formation of powerful Houses and the first time the dreaded White Walkers descended into Westeros.

With a working title of Bloodmoon, the Game of Thrones prequel is a collaboration between George RR Martin and screenwriter Jane Goldman.

At the moment, the prequel is confirmed for only one pilot, so only time will tell if we get a full series; So far, this is everything we know about the Bloodmoon saga before Game of Thrones.

Cut to the hunt

The Game of Thrones sequel to Bloodmoon is about 5000 years before the events of the original Game of Thrones.

According to HBO, the new series "will narrate the descent of the world from the era of heroes to its darkest moment."

The synopsis continues: "From the horrible secrets of Westeros history to the true origin of the White Walkers, from the mysteries of the East to the legendary Starks, one thing is certain: it is not history that we think we know."

Where and when can I watch Bloodmoon?

We don't have a final release date for the Game of Thrones release, but we do know that the pilot episode will be released in 2020.

If you are in the United States, HBO Go is probably the perfect place to stream Bloodmoon, which will require an HBO subscription.

If you are outside of the United States, you will not be able to do so because HBO Go is only supported in the United States and "certain United States territories." In the UK, Game of Thrones was available on Sky Atlantic and NowTV. We believe that the suite will also be broadcast on these platforms.

In Australia, GoT was available to stream on Foxtel Now; again, Bloodmoon is likely available to stream here as well.

Who is confirmed to work on Bloodmoon?

The creators of the new series are George RR Martin and British screenwriter Jane Goldman, whose previous works include Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service and Stardust.

HBO said: "Both productions will be produced alongside SJ Clarkson (The Defenders, Jessica Jones, HBO Estate and the next episode of Star Trek), who will also lead the pilot episode; James Farrell; Jim Danger Gray; Vince Gerardis; Daniel Zelman and co-executive producer Chris Symes. "

Who will play in Bloodmoon?

We already know some of the cast members from the Game of Thrones pre-sequence, but most of the information on the characters that we've collected so far is that Oscar nominee Naomi Watts "is one of the newspapers. as a charismatic socialist hiding a dark secret. "

According to HBO, he is joined by Miranda Richardson (Rita Skeeter from the Harry Potter films), Marquis Rodríguez (Manifesto), John Simm (Aliens), Richard MCabe (Electric Dreams of Philip K. Dick), John Heffernan (Dracula) and Dixie. Egerickx. (Summerland).

Josh Whitehouse (Poldark), Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Denise Gough (Monday), Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd: Demon Baroness of Fleet Street, Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald), Sheila Atim (Harlots), Ivanno Jeremiah (Humans ), Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia Movies), Alex Sharp (How to Talk to Girls at a Party) and Toby Regbo (The Last Reign, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald).

Bloodmoon: everything we know so far

From the synopsis posted by HBO, we can get some details about the previous Game of Thrones. While we don't have a definitive release date beyond 2020, and there's no guarantee that the pilot will be the subject of an entire series, HBO and George RR Martin have given us some teasers we can work with:

Westeros is a very different place

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, George RR Martin confirmed that the Westeros of Bloodmoon will be very different from the ones we discovered and loved on Game of Thrones. Said:

"Westeros is a very different place. There is no King's Landing. There is no iron throne. There is no Targaryen: Valyria has only just begun to rise with its dragons and the great empire it has built. We are facing a different and older world and We hope it's part of the fun of the show. "

More recently, Martin revealed that Westeros is divided into "around 100 kingdoms in the old one", much more than the seven kingdoms we are used to.

Don't expect Jon Snow to show up

Thousands of years before A Song of Ice and Fire, we don't expect many characters (if any) from the original series. So if you're hoping to reunite fan favorites like Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, and Ned Stark, you're probably going to be disappointed.

However, that doesn't mean we won't see old characters...

Winter is coming

We know that Bloodmoon will take place during the Age of Heroes, a four-thousand-year period in Westerosi history, which was canonized through myth and song years later.

While we don't know exactly when the new series will take place during Age of Heroes, we are aware of some key historical events that occurred during this period.

The most famous of them is the Long Night, in which the White Walkers, led by the king of the night, sought to "end all life and cover the world in an endless winter," according to fandom.

Of course the king of the night has played a lot over the last few seasons of Game of Thrones, could we see a full story of the origin of White Walker?

Starks, Direwolves and mammoths … but no dragons

It is not because Ned Stark was born in about 5000 years that we will never see Starks. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Martin confirmed that "the Starks will definitely be here", a descendant of the First Men.

We will also return the beloved Dire Wolves, as well as a new type of creature to fight: mammoths.

However, dragon fans will be disappointed; the prequel would have preceded the dragons entirely.
