Future versions of Windows 10 will allow you to uninstall Notepad and Paint

Windows 10 users will soon be able to completely uninstall Notepad, Paint, and WordPad from their systems in future versions of Microsoft's operating system. Notepad and Paint have been installed automatically in Windows since the release of version 1.0 of the operating system in 1985, while WordPad has been installed automatically since 1995 as part of the Windows 95 operating system. While these programs offer users a convenient way to take notes, editing documents, and creating graphics, none of them could be uninstalled from Windows. However, in Windows 10 Insider Build 19551, Microsoft has made these programs optional features that can be uninstalled if users want via the "Optional Features" control panel.

Legacy Programs

According to a WindowsLatest report, Microsoft Paint and WordPad are expected to become optional features in the next version of Windows 2004 (20HI), which is due to be released in the spring. In future versions of Windows 10, users will need to restart Windows after uninstalling Notepad, Paint, and WordPad. Once the reset is complete, the programs will be completely removed from Windows and even if a user searches for them, they will not be prompted to reinstall these programs. For now, though, these programs will still be installed by default, which shouldn't be a big problem since Microsoft Paint, Notepad, and WordPad take up less than 20MB combined. By allowing users to uninstall these legacy programs, Microsoft makes it much easier for them to install more feature-rich alternatives like Notepad++ or Paint.NET. Via BleepingComputer
