Finally, WhatsApp brings self-destruct messages for individuals

In the second half of last year, WhatsApp started experimenting with a new feature: self-destructing messages. The idea was simple: you could send a message and set it to automatically delete after a while. But while there was a lot of interest in this feature, after a trial period, the company decided to make it available only in group chats. Conversations between just two people ran out of counterproductive messages... but that might be about to change. When analyzing the latest beta version of WhatsApp - version 2.20.84 - WABetaInfo noticed new references to self-destructive messages in regular chats. As with the existing version of group chat, the functionality is known as Delete Messages, giving users the option to delete messages after one hour, one day, one week, one month, or one year. automatically deleted after a specified time have proven popular in other instant messaging tools, so it's not surprising to see WhatsApp experimenting with extending this option beyond group chats.

When Delete Message is enabled, the chat icon changes to signify this, and a message appears in the chat to remind users when messages will be deleted. WABetaInfo notes that while there are references to Deleting Messages for Individuals, this is a feature that is currently in development and will be available in a future release. Although the functionality is not functional at this time, it will be users of the beta version of the app who will be able to test it first.
