Elden Ring can look amazing even on Xbox One consoles

It might be the most anticipated game of this fledgling console generation, but you probably don't need an Xbox Series X or PS5 to be wowed by Elden Ring's beautiful appearance. A new leak of alleged gameplay footage shows Elden Ring running on what would be an Xbox One generation console, most likely an Xbox One X, given the solid frame rate. Posted by Gamebeat's Jeff Grub on his Twitter page, it's a pretty sedate clip. The player character is depicted standing on the edge of a ravine, with a huge, glowing tree behind him. The camera pans to show a distant city across a vast open plain, while some eagles soar as the player approaches them, feathers fluttering on the ground as they take off.

Analysis: Authentic New Generation?

The most amazing thing here is how precious next-gen footage looks, if it's a next-gen music video. The game targets newer Xbox Series X and S consoles, PS5, PC, and older Xbox One and PS4 machines. But based on these (indeed thin) images, you may be wondering why anyone would bother to upgrade to the newer systems. The intergenerational divide is now a double-edged sword. Now, it's still pretty hard to get hold of the new consoles as stocks have been low since launch. So being able to play top-tier versions of the same games across generations is welcome for those who haven't been so lucky thus far. But then again, it still seems like, for most cross-gen versions, we really don't see the power of the new machines being exploited, making buying next-gen consoles expensive seems a bit premature. . . For now, we can take solace in the fact that Elden Ring looks excellent no matter exactly which console you get to play it on. But that may now dampen our hopes for the niceties of the forward-thinking new console it will serve.
