Seriously tough competition

While Disney Plus' debut appearance at the Emmy Awards is certainly impressive, it's just a small drop in the bucket compared to Netflix's record number of nominations. The streaming giant made history with an incredible 160 nods, easily breaking the record of 137 nominations set by HBO in 2019. Among Netflix shows receiving Emmy nods, Ozark leads the pack. with 18 nods, followed by The Crown selected for 13 categories in total. That's not to say HBO is running out of nominations, picking up an incredible 107 nods, with its famed series Watchmen garnering 26 nominations, the most of any competing series this year. Amazon Prime Video's wonderful Mrs. Maisel, who got an amazing 20 nods. Surprisingly, Amazon's best-selling original series The Boys earned just one nomination for Outstanding Sound Editing. Streaming service Hulu also did well, earning nominations for Wu-Tang: An American Saga, Little Fires Everywhere, Ramy, and The Handmaid's Tale. As you can see, the competition at this year's Emmy Awards is sure to be fierce — you can find out if your favorite show wins the night's big awards when the ceremony airs on September 20, 2020.
