Confused about the fate of the OnePlus Nord 2? Here's a theory | The comparison
The OnePlus Nord CE will be among the most discussed devices in the coming days as the company refreshes its portfolio of budget smartphones. However, the information currently available raises more questions than answers, especially on the OnePlus Nord 2. Last week, TechRadar exclusively confirmed the existence of the OnePlus Nord CE and what the brand's next mid-range smartphone will look like for the world. and also for India, when it was presented on June 10. Pete Lau also told us that it will be even more affordable than the OnePlus North. Lau didn't confirm if the OnePlus Nord CE was a direct successor to the original 2020 Nord, though, but from his writing in the interview, it seemed like the OnePlus Nord 2 would be a separate device. He also said: "We've distilled the original North down to its basics and added a few more features to create a great everyday phone at an even more affordable price." In a video by Mukul Sharma aka Stufflistings, he explains what to expect from upcoming OnePlus smartphones.

Enter OnePlus Nord CE

Previous speculation suggested the two would be the same device, as specs like the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 and 65W fast charging have been floating around for months. But another report exceeded those expectations, claiming that the OnePlus Nord CE will be powered by the Snapdragon 750G chipset, with a 90Hz AMOLED screen, a 64MP main camera, and a design upgrade. While most of them aren't too different from the first-gen Nord, the decision to go with the Snapdragon 750G could be an indication that the OnePlus Nord CE will actually be a slightly cheaper smartphone in terms of positioning, the Same chipset can be seen in devices like Xiaomi Mi 10i, Moto G 5G, Samsung Galaxy M42 5G, priced around Rs 20.000. The price of the OnePlus Nord CE in India is unlikely to be much different given that the competitors are already somewhat old devices. We expect it to start under Rs 25.000 in India, making it the brand's cheapest offering in the country.

But what about the OnePlus Nord 2?

OnePlus is expected to make another announcement later this month on June 25. There's no official mention of this date or any other device at the moment, but at first glance it could be for the OnePlus Nord 2. There's also a OnePlus Nord N200 on the horizon, but that's it. It will be limited to the United States. and canada. We've been hearing about a OnePlus Nord 2 powered by MediaTek for months now. It was scheduled to launch in Q25, making a June 1200 date even more likely. Whether or not this will be a device with limited global availability is still unclear, as the Dimensity XNUMX has been exclusive to a handful of markets like China and India.

An essential version

It's not just jumping to conclusions here, as the device's existence was confirmed by accident during a Google Stadia promotional campaign, where the OnePlus Nord 2 was listed on the smartphone maker's website as an eligible device. Although this bug has now been fixed, it does spill beans. The partnership with Stadia also suggests the company will be looking to position it as an affordable gaming smartphone, a common trait with other Dimensity 1200 smartphones. In fact, that branding will also bode well with features like a display. AMOLED 120Hz and 65W Warp Charing, which are other alleged specifications of the OnePlus Nord 2. Finally, while the new OnePlus 9 series of smartphones has reached new heights in terms of price, there is now a significant gap in the segment from Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000, even after the launch of the Nord CE. This space, which is in dire need of an update, is exactly where the OnePlus Nord 2 will ideally fit.
