Confirmed: Oppo and OnePlus are not leaving Europe after all

This morning this story was about a unique new rumor suggesting that Oppo and sister phone maker OnePlus would suddenly and unexpectedly pull out of European markets. We've reached out to both brands to confirm, and as such, this story now includes their formal responses.

If you had asked us yesterday, we would have said that everything looked like sunshine and rainbows on both OnePlus and Oppo. OnePlus recently released the OnePlus 11, a marked improvement over its predecessor, which is set for the best phone of 2023.

And Oppo has not only introduced its new flagship line, the Oppo Find X6 series, but has stormed the international foldable market with one of the best foldables around (check out our Oppo Find N2 Flip review for the full breakdown) recently. more than a month. .

With all that in mind, not to mention a successful MWC show, in which both brands had some of the best stuff to showcase at the show, we were stumped when an established insider claimed that the two companies were supposedly planning to pull back on triggering their presence. Europe, in a Tweet.

I can confirm: OPPO and OnePlus withdraw from Europe. The first to leave are Germany, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands. March 27, 2023

In his post, shared on the morning of March 27, Max Jambor dropped a metaphorical bombshell, stating that both brands were pulling out of Europe; starting with key markets such as Germany, the UK, France and the Netherlands. Shortly after, he followed up with another message (opens in a new tab) stating that an official statement would follow, however no such statement has surfaced via Jambor's Twitter feed, as of writing.

Instead, TechRadar decided to reach out to our contacts at both brands for confirmation of the source, and OnePlus was quick to respond with the following:

"OnePlus will not abandon Europe and the UK and will maintain stable operations in local markets. OnePlus will continue to invest in Europe and bring more innovative products and solutions to its users."

Given the company's recent launches and many other plans seemingly underway to expand its reach, not narrow it down, such as a premium OnePlus foldable and the rumored OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite just weeks or even days from launch, according to leaks, such an outing . it would have been completely irrelevant and unwelcome on OnePlus' part.

and Oppo?

When it comes to Oppo, while the company's new flagship is still finding its footing (see our Oppo Find X6 Pro hands-on review for more), there generally seems to be a clear and confident strategy in place, with aircraft taking up positions. prominent. . with retailers and carriers, significant marketing investments, and a steady stream of remarkable devices hitting the market.

As we wait a bit longer for Oppo's official response, here's what we heard when we asked for a comment on Jambor's original post:

"Oppo and OnePlus are committed to all existing European markets. We are off to a great start in 2023 with the successful launch of several products in Europe and we have a range of products for the rest of the year. As always, Oppo and OnePlus will continue to provide products innovative and best-in-class service to users in the future.

So this is it. Despite a not inconsiderable raised eyebrow when the initial rumor broke, to the contrary, it would appear that neither Oppo nor OnePlus have any formal intention of leaving the UK or European markets where their products are already present; discredit Jambor's original claim in its entirety.

Note: Updates to this story include a revised title and opening paragraph to reflect the official response from both brands that we subsequently received after the story was originally published, as well as a revised copy after "And Oppo?" subtitle, following the official listing of the company.
