Computex 2022: what to expect from this year's fair

Computex 2022 takes place May 24-27 in Taipei, Taiwan, and is the biggest and most exciting computing event on the calendar.

Unlike last year, which was online only and canceled in 2020, Computex 2022 will be held in person.

However, as Taiwan continues to limit international visitors due to the Covid-19 pandemic, press from other parts of the world will not be present in the kind of numbers we used to see before the pandemic.

This includes us. TechRadar will remotely cover Computex 2022, but that doesn't mean you'll miss out. We'll always bring you the biggest news as it breaks from the show.

This includes Keynote presentations from Nvidia and AMD, as well as presentations from Asus, Gigabyte, and more. All of these big players are based in Taiwan, but that means other companies may not be around.

Such is the case with Intel, which is probably the most notable absence from this year's event.

Still, Computex 2022 should be an exciting showcase for the future of computing, so read on to find out what to expect. We will update this page with the latest news as it happens.

cut to hunt

Computex date 2022

Computex 2022 officially starts on May 23, 2022 and lasts until May 27. As in previous years, Nvidia and AMD will hold keynote presentations on the first day (Taiwan time).

We expect other manufacturers to announce new products during the week from major Taiwanese companies like Asus, Acer and Gigabyte.

AMD at Computex 2022

AMD CEO Lisa Su delivers a keynote address at Computex 2022, as tradition dictates. It could be a busy keynote, starting at 11pm PT (2am ET, 7am BST) on May 23.

We look forward to seeing more of AMD's new Ryzen 7000 processors. Announced at CES 2022, these new chips will offer support for DDR5 and PCIe 5.0, and will use the new Zen 4 architecture based on a 5nm node, versus 7nm on previous Ryzen chips.

AMD has a way of showing off new processors at CES and then launching them at Computex, which could be the case this year. We should learn more about the performance, specs, and perhaps even the price of these desktop processors.

However, we do not expect to see Ryzen 7000 processors for laptops. They are more likely to arrive in 2023.

As for AMD GPUs, we can take a look at the upcoming RDNA 3 RX 7000 GPUs. They are expected to launch later this year to compete with Nvidia's next generation of graphics cards, but we don't know much about them. Computex 2022 could be the perfect time to show them off.

Nvidia at Computex 2022

PC gamers will want to tune in to Nvidia's keynote, which starts at 8pm PT on May 23 (11pm ET or 4am May 24 BST) to see what the GPU maker has in store.

We expect Nvidia to launch its RTX 4000 series of "Lovelace" GPUs later this year, and there have been rumors that we could see the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 starting in July.

If that's true, we can see them at Computex. Last year Nvidia's Jeff Fisher announced the RTX 3090 Ti at Computex, so we might have something similar this year. There have also been rumors of a budget GTX 1630 GPU, which could also be unveiled during the keynote.

However, if Nvidia only comes out with a budget GPU and no top-of-the-line models, we might be disappointed.

Intel at Computex 2022

Unfortunately, Intel will not be at this year's event. This is likely due to Taiwan's still strict Covid-19 policies. Unlike Nvidia and AMD, which are based in Taiwan, Intel executives may have found it too difficult to attend in any meaningful way.

Instead, Intel held its own event earlier this year. So if you want to learn more about the upcoming Raptor Lake processors and Arc Alchemist GPUs, which will pit Intel against AMD and Nvidia in the gaming graphics card market, then you won't be at Computex 2022.
