Chez papa: Season 4 of The Boys confirmed by Prime Video

It's official: The Boys season 4 has launched after Amazon Studios renewed its hit superhero series for a fourth season.

Announced in a press release on June 10, Amazon confirmed that the R-rated Prime Video show would return for another episode. The announcement comes a week after The Boys season 3 began streaming on Amazon's streaming platform; the series sees a 17% increase in its global viewership from season 2 to season 3. Since the Prime Video series debuted in 2019, it has also seen a massive 234% increase in the number of people tuning in to the series, which is a live-action adaptation of the beloved graphic novel series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

“On behalf of the cast and crew, we are so grateful to Sony, Amazon and especially all the fans for embracing the show and allowing us to do more,” said Eric Kripke, executive producer of The Boys. "We're thrilled to continue Butcher and the boys' fight against Homelander and the Seven, as well as comment on the crazy world we live in. Also, this is the first time in history that exploding genitalia led to a greater success. "

"The Boys continues to push the boundaries of storytelling while relentlessly entertaining and threading social satire that feels all too real," added Vernon Sanders, Amazon's head of global television. "This stylized world of the series has an incredible global reach and the opening weekend audience is proof of that, and we look forward to bringing more The Boys to our customers."

The Boys' renewal comes on the same day that the fourth episode of the satirical superhero show's third season hit Amazon's streaming service. The first three episodes debuted on launch day (June 3), with subsequent entries releasing weekly until the explosive season finale on July 8.

With the green light from Amazon for a fourth season of the series, the boys' cinematic universe continues to expand abroad. Amazon's adaptation has already spawned a spin-off show: The Boys Presents: Diabolical, an animated anthology series featuring both canon and non-canon stories. Another yet untitled spin-off show that is positioned as a college-style parody, Hunger Games, is currently in production at Amazon Studios.

Confirmation of The Boys season 4 seemed like just a matter of time. The ultra-violent yet hilarious show was the first Prime Video series to make Nielsen's Best Shows of 2018 list, cementing its place as one of Amazon's biggest hits. Meanwhile, star Karl Urban has already hinted that a fourth season is on the way, telling Variety (opens in a new tab) that he will film the new season "through the end of the year." Still, it's great to know that The Boys season 4 will be with us at some point.
