What is CES 2020?

When is CES 2020?

If you stick to the official dates, CES 2020 will take place from Tuesday, January 7 to Friday, January 10, 2020. However, journalists began flocking to Las Vegas a few days earlier to cover the press conferences that began on Sunday. January 5 at 12pm PST and will continue through Monday and Tuesday. It's during this period that we'll hear from the biggest consumer tech brands introducing us to new products at their major events. Traditionally, the biggest of these speeches happens on Monday, when LG, Samsung, and Sony host all their events, but some CES-related announcements will arrive on Sunday night when the news starts to break out of the conference.

How big is CES and where is it taking place?

CES is huge, taking over the vast majority of the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding streets. In fact, in terms of square footage, there is 2.75 million net square feet of exhibit space between the Las Vegas Convention Center, The Sands, Mandalay Bay, and The Venetian, nearly all of which house the convention. and its exhibitors. Fun fact: There are about 160,000 hotel rooms in Las Vegas and about 180,000 attendees each year. Unsurprisingly given these numbers, hotels are filling up fast and the roads leading to the convention center are pretty busy that week. Luckily, CTA (the company that puts on the show) offers free transportation to almost all of the major hotels on the Strip from the Convention Center and runs buses to and from the Sands between 9pm and 6pm. walk. The convention center itself is huge, as is The Sands. The walk can easily take one to two hours, and you can easily rack up three to four miles on your pedometer along the way.

Which companies are participating in CES 2020?

The big news this year (well, in theory) is that Apple is "taking part" in CES for the first time in decades. The brand hasn't traditionally shown up at the show after going to its own events to present key products, but this year Apple will participate in a security roundtable. Privacy Officer Roundtable Participant: What Do Consumers Want? In a discussion, Jane Horvath, Apple's senior director of global privacy, will join Facebook, the Federal Trade Commission and Proctor & Gamble to discuss privacy in the online world today. So while Apple won't be at CES in the same way that competitors Samsung and LG are, launching a multitude of new devices, it will be present in a way it hasn't been for years. Beyond that, confirmed exhibitors include Amazon, Canon, Facebook, Intel, LG, Lenovo, Microsoft, MSI, Nikon, Samsung, Sony and many others. Now, of course, not everyone is there to show off new products. A good majority of companies are there to do business, while others are there to collect feedback and have a presence, rather than launch something new. That being said, there will still be hundreds of new products debuting this year in almost every category. You can view a full list of attendees on the CES 2020 website.
