Callisto Protocol performance on Xbox Series X is a bit scary right now

After its release, The Callisto Protocol's performance was a major cause of its mixed reviews from gamers and critics, with most of its reviews on Steam highlighting performance issues from day one.

While we were impressed with what we saw at the game's launch, according to some sources such as Eurogamer(Opens in a new tab), these issues have led some players to believe that The Callisto Protocol seems almost unplayable on PC. due to stutter on any system. For Xbox Series X players, the issues are minor, but still noticeable and affect the overall experience with the Callisto protocol.

One of the main issues is that the shaders are not precompiled, ensuring that every time something new is rendered, you may experience severe framerate drops and visual stutters, regardless of CPU, but the issue may be even worse on older, less powerful models.

For Xbox Series X, however, performance issues are an issue, but the biggest complaint is the lack of one feature: ray-tracing reflections, which takes away from advancing gameplay realism. All systems offer a choice of performance modes, Callisto Protocol performance on Xbox Series X and PC requires patch update.

Performance on the PS5 seems to be much better, which may be because, judging by the credits for The Callisto Protocol, more than 150 developers from the PlayStation Visual Arts studio helped with the development. This Sony studio focuses on motion capture and cinematics and is compatible with other studios. This may mean that the Callisto protocol is better optimized on PS5 than it is on PC and Xbox.

We are aware that some users are experiencing stuttering issues on PC. We have a fix coming in a few hours to improve performance, with a number of additional updates on the way. December 2, 2022

A day after launch, developer Striking Distance Studios released a patch update to address several of the PC performance issues reported by players and promised several more updates to follow. The fix was meant to address and resolve the issues caused by stuttering.

Originally reported by Forbes(Opens in a new tab), the recent fix helped fix some of the more prominent stuttering issues, but there are still some frequent micro-stutters that aren't as significant but detract from the experience. In future updates, Stringking Distance says there will be performance improvements on PC and Xbox Series X, but a timeline has yet to be released to expect further updates.
