One of Bruvi's goals in creating their new brewing system was to solve the problem of the millions of single-use coffee pods that end up in landfills every year. While other companies offer pods for recycling, the Bruvi team knows that realistically most users will end up throwing used pods away. That's why all Bruvi coffee pods, called Toss B-Pods, are designed to break down faster.
The Brewer is Bruvi's first product, making the company relatively new to the best coffee maker scene. The machine is aimed at users who appreciate both a good cup of coffee and a variety of options. The Bruvi BV-01 coffee maker is beautiful to look at. It comes in one color, cream, with light wood accents that will enhance any kitchen or coffee cart you live in. We would have liked to see a few more color options, but for the first product from a new brand, it certainly delivers on design.
Once you plug in the machine, the display will light up showing the variety of brewing options the machine has to offer. Before you start brewing for the first time, Bruvi says the machine should go through a cleaning cycle. Although we were looking to get started right away, the cleaning cycle was very easy to do and hardly felt like an extra step. All we had to do was remove and rinse the water reservoir, then fill it with room-temperature water before putting it back in the coffeemaker. We then ran hot water through the machine a few times and then we were ready to start the fun - the coffee.
The Bruvi BV-01 coffee maker can be easily adjusted to different cup sizes. If you use a cup, you can put it on the drip tray, which is the standard mode of this machine. If you want to make espresso, the drip tray can be placed closer to where the coffee is dispensed by inserting it into a tab located higher up. For large travel mugs, the drip tray can be removed from the base.

The Bruvi BV-01 coffee maker is extremely easy to use, and once it has gone through a cleaning cycle, you are ready to go. We decided to start by making a classic cup of hot coffee with a Coffee B-Pod. After making sure there was enough water in the water reservoir, we turned on the machine, lifted the handle to open the sliding door lid, and inserted the B-Pod into the pod chamber. The Bruvi Brewer uses automatic optimized brewing, which means that the machine scans and recognizes each B-Pod to automatically adjust the brew settings. In this case, because we chose a Coffee B-Pod, the machine was ready to brew a larger cup of coffee; when we inserted an Espresso B-Pod to make our second test drink, the machine scanned it and was ready to make an espresso.
Once the B-Pod was in the chamber, we lowered the handle and heard a distinctive cracking sound, which was the sound of the hermetic seal being punctured. From there, you can choose to customize the coffee (hotter, low-acid, American, stronger, iced, or cold) and choose a size. To start brewing, simply press the Start/Stop button and press again if you want to stop brewing mid-cycle. The curved bars on either side of the start/stop button will turn off one by one as the brew cycle progresses, so you can monitor progress in case you need to turn off the machine.
Since the variety pack only included coffee and espresso B-Pods, we were only able to make those drinks, plus tea with the option of hot water, but we were impressed with the quality of the coffee and espresso B-Pods. We were also pleasantly surprised by the amount of coffee in the B-Pods; according to Bruvi, they contain 40% more coffee than a classic pod. We enjoy a small cup of espresso with milk almost every day, which is why we've stuck to our trusty Nespresso machine (with the original capsules) for many years. But we realized how limiting that was once we started craving bigger, more refreshing iced coffees. With the Bruvi BV-01 coffee maker you are not limited to just one type of drink, and we recommend this coffee maker to anyone looking for variety.
If you live at high altitudes, especially more than 1,5 feet (5000 km) above sea level, the Bruvi BV-01 coffee maker has a high altitude mode. This mode will ensure a higher boiling point at your altitude (at higher altitudes the boiling point is lower) so you don't burn your coffee. All you have to do is press the Hotter and Cold Brew buttons simultaneously for five seconds until they flash green. One maintenance step that coffee maker owners should take into account, and from which the Bruvi is not exempt, is descaling. Descaling is the process of cleaning the inside of the coffeemaker by running water through the machine with a descaling solution to remove mineral buildup. You will need to do this for the Bruvi Brewer after every 17 gallons / 65 liters of water. Another way to maintain the Bruvi Brewer is to use a water filter, which is included in the Bruvi Bundle. This water filter will help remove chlorine, minerals, and other impurities from your water. The descaling solution and the water filter can be purchased on the Bruvi website.

Although the Bruvi app is not required to operate the coffee maker, it does provide additional features that may entice users to download it. All you have to do is download the Bruvi app and create a Bruvi account, and then you can connect your coffee maker to the app via Wi-Fi. The process is simple, and once you've got it set up, you can control the brewer remotely from your phone, schedule brews in advance, view a history of the different B-Pods you've used, and receive water reserve alerts. levels and decalcification.
We enjoyed using the Bruvi app when it was running, but our coffee maker disconnected multiple times and we couldn't get it back on after the second time. We think the most useful aspect of the app is the ability to pre-program an infusion and order B-Pods.
