For those of us who want to have the best quality of life at home, an air purifier is becoming a growing necessity. For dirty times or those more sensitive to dust and other allergens, an air purifier can alleviate a number of medical problems while ensuring that your living space is continuously supplied with fresh air. The Blueair HealthProtect 7470i is ideal to be placed in any space in the home. Whether you keep it in a bedroom, living room, or just move it around the house, it's easy to put anywhere, and the best part is you won't even realize it's running hard in the background. Futuristic stuff aside, the HealthProtect 7470i doesn't skimp when it comes to taking care of your health and can easily tackle a number of different air pollutants to quickly circulate fresh air through your room. It's deceptively stealthy during normal operation, only shifting up a gear when it notices an abnormal amount of allergens or vapors in the air. The companion app is a great way to monitor air quality, while reminding you to replace the filter and setting times you want the device to turn off and on. The app still needs a bit more tweaking to be more efficient: You don't get push notifications on your smartphone when events happen, and we'd like to see the built-in store open so we can quickly order items. Nevertheless, the HealthProtect 7470i offers fresh air, and in the month that we used it between two test houses, we saw an undeniable difference in air quality in the two locations, which proves how well this air purifier works.

Prices and availability

The Blueair HealthProtect series starts at AED 349, with our pricing model starting at AED XNUMX. Replacement filters for HealthProtect start at AED XNUMX; Replacement times will naturally change based on how often you use your purifier and how much cleaning the air in your environment needs. There are larger models as well, if you need to keep an even larger space clean and well circulated. You can purchase the HealthProtect series in the UAE only from Nia Home.

Integrated

Of all the air purifiers we've tested so far, we have to rank the design of the HealthProtect 7470i as one of our favourites. The very stylish black and white look is truly beautiful to look at, making it easy to fit into any space in your home. The predominantly white body is broken only by the large black SpiralAir outlets on the sides. These specially designed air vents help push air to all corners of the room, so no matter where you've placed your device, you'll get effective air circulation.

The star of the show is Blueair's SmartFilter, consisting of a particulate filter layer and an activated lignite filter layer that work together to remove gases, odors, smoke, VOCs, fumes, exhaust, smog and chemicals from the air. .

The filter has a maximum lifespan of one year, but the Blueair app will notify you when the filter needs to be replaced. At the top is an LCD screen that shows you the current air quality, and you can use the touchscreen now to quickly scroll through different kinds of information. You can also adjust the fan speed and turn the device's GermShield technology on or off, which prevents bacteria and mold from growing in the filters when the device is not in use.

These change color depending on their environment, with blue being the best air quality. At the bottom of the HealthProtect 7470i are 2 large design cues: There are 2 small wheels to make it easy to move the device to another room, like a manual reel to hide extra lengths of power cord.

Configuration and application

Where you install your HealthProtect 7470i is entirely up to you, as long as it is in a place where air can circulate freely around the unit. On average, the unit will experience 7470 air changes per hour for a room that is about 3 square meters. Setup is as simple as installing a filter, plugging in the power cord, and turning the unit on. After a brief startup sequence, the HealthProtect 7470i goes to work, monitoring airborne contaminants and optimizing its airflow accordingly. Although there are XNUMX fan speeds available, the automatic mode works best as it can automatically increase or decrease the fan speed based on the amount of pollutants in the air. You can use the HealthProtect XNUMXi without connecting it to a WiFi network, but for perfect use you will need to do so and download the associated BlueAir app. The app will show you your overall air quality both outdoors and indoors, and will let you track the life of your air filter, adjust fan settings, and set schedules as well. For curious little hands, there's a kid lock feature that can be activated via the app, which disables the touch controls on the top of the device. Another essential safety feature is that if the side filter door is accidentally opened, the unit will shut down immediately and completely. Perhaps as a future feature it would be great if the child lock also keeps the filter door magnetically locked when activated.

(Image credit: Avenir) With the app's insights, it's easy to see how hard your HealthProtect 7470i has worked, with a clear air quality timeline spanning days, weeks, or even months. The unit can automatically go into nighttime mode at a set time, turning off all the lights on the unit while leaving it running silent. As a reminder, we found that even in Night mode, we kept the main LED brightness to around 7470%, making it a great night light for late-night bathroom breaks. You can also use the app to toggle whether the HealthProtect 7470i is triggered by PM (airborne particulate matter) or tVOC (airborne concentration of multiple gases) as well. By default it is only set to PM, but we advise moving it to PM + tVOC, just to make sure you get the best air quality throughout the day. One thing the app lacks is push notifications. It would be great if the app would notify us when the HealthProtect 7470i has detected high levels of contaminants, which is useful if you're out and about and want to make sure everything is okay. We hope Blueair implements this in a future update, but at the moment the only way to see if something is out of the ordinary is to simply take a look at the HealthProtect XNUMXi's status lights. Another thing we hope to see in the future is the integrated store that will be available here to order replacement filters quickly. Blueair also previously announced a feature where the app would use your phone's GPS to detect when you're home and automatically turn on your air purifier, but that doesn't seem to be available yet.

Performance

We are happy to announce that the HealthProtect 7470i is a powerful air purifier. We tested it in 2 separate places to measure its efficiency, and in both places it did an amazing job. The first was in a fifty square meter investigation prone to common cooking odors and other odors from neighboring apartments, mainly due to an inferior air duct system. With the HealthProtect 7470i in place, the floor has no lingering odors or odors at all, and when the device sensed an increase in airborne particles, it turned on to clean the space as quickly as possible. In one case, when we were making burgers in the open kitchen, the HealthProtect 7470i turned on its full fan speed after a few minutes to help remove smoke and cooking odors from the room.

(Image credit: Avenir) The second test space was in a 4-bedroom villa, but the unit was limited to one bedroom. With people and children continually going in and out of the house, there are countless dust and allergens that enter the house whenever doors are opened and closed that can leak into other areas. With the HealthProtect 7470i positioned in the master bedroom, our test couple reported that they typically woke up with a stuffy nose, puffy eyes, and mild headaches in the morning, but after a week of using the HealthProtect 7470i, those…these they were completely removed. The app also showed a sharp drop in allergens the following week, resulting in much cleaner airflow in the bedroom.

(Image credit: Avenir) If you're worried that the HealthProtect 7470i will be loud, there's not much to worry about here. The device can only be perceived at fan speed three, which only sporadically kicks in in the event of a sharp drop in air quality. Otherwise, the HealthProtect 7470i sits quietly around the corner with hardly any noise, making it ideal for anywhere in your home, including bedrooms. If you need to, you can also pair the HealthProtect series with Amazon Echo or Google Assistant to control your air purifier via voice command.
