AWS is here to help you modernize your mainframe

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is launching a new service to help companies deploy their mainframes in fully managed, cloud-based runtime environments.

Dubbed the AWS Mainframe Modernization service, the cloud hosting giant said the new service provides businesses with tools and resources to help plan their migration and modernization implementation.

The service comes as mainframes hosted on local servers remain a staple of modern computing, and are relied upon by many of the largest organizations for their greatest effort.

How does it work?

AWS said the new service deploys and manages the entire mainframe infrastructure for you, including the required network launch, load balancer, and log collection setup with tools like Amazon CloudWatch (opens in a new tab), among others. others.

The new service will also handle application versioning, deployments, and high availability dependency, which AWS says will save users a lot of time when designing, testing, automating, and deploying applications on its infrastructure.

The fully managed runtime appears to include many managed infrastructure and automation resources that you can use through the AWS Console, AWS Command Line Interface (CLI), and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

Amazon says that these features will eliminate the tedious work of managing complex infrastructure.

Also, users of Agile and DevOps methodologies may be in luck.

AWS Mainframe Modernization provides you with AWS CloudFormation templates (opens in a new tab) to create continuous integration and deployment pipelines in accordance with AWS, and deploy and configure monitoring services to monitor managed runtime.

To be sure, AWS was quick to implement new features.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking to reach on-premises hardware providers where it hurts them most with a new set of products and services, offering deeper integration with dedicated server hosting.

Amazon said the services operate on a "pay only for what you use" model with no upfront costs, and third-party license costs are included in the hourly price.

The AWS Mainframe Modernization Service is available in the following AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Canada (Central), Europe ( Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland) and South America (São Paulo).

Runtimes for refactored applications, based on Blu Age, start at €2.50 per hour

Pricing details are available on the service's pricing page (opens in a new tab).
