Australian customers were dissatisfied with Apple and Samsung in 2019, report says

With the release of the latest NSW Fair Trade report, we now have a good idea of what matters most to state customers, with consumer technology dominating the charts. Online retailer Kogan had a very volatile start to the year with 70 and 72 complaints respectively in January and February, and while that number has steadily declined throughout 2019, it still tops the list with the most complaints overall. An overwhelming majority of these complaints were due to the quality of the products purchased, and the categories they fell into were dominated by electronics, smartphones, laptops, and other similar products. Second and third place were respectively taken by tech giants Apple and Samsung, most months have seen 20 to 30 complaints, most of which concerned smartphones, laptops and other electrical devices from the brand, in the case of the latter. While JB Hi Fi was the fourth most criticized company in December, it performed very well throughout the year, registering on average less than 10 complaints per month. Outside of airlines like Jetstar and Qantas, most of the top offenders were consumer tech brands or retailers like Harvey Norman, which primarily sold tech items. It should be noted that the registry only lists companies that have received at least 10 complaints in the course of a month. Consequently, a retailer or brand that consistently scores below this number will not be considered. This means that a company that records 9 complaints each month could end up with a significantly higher total for the year than one that only has one month of 10 or more complaints, and yet will not show up as no on the Fair Trade report.
