Asus will finally announce its new flagship gaming product later this month as a successor to the popular ROG Phone 2. A possible bug may have confirmed that it will be powered by an unannounced Snapdragon chipset. The Asus ROG Phone 3 will launch on July 22, and it should have all the latest high-end specs. A quickly deleted tweet said it would be powered by the Snapdragon 865 Plus, a chipset that has yet to be announced.

(Image credit: Screenshot (via ROG)) This is particularly interesting because the SoC was previously not supposed to even exist, but is now being talked about and seen in many future devices. As the name suggests, it will be a faster variant of the Snapdragon 865, with a top-notch performance core clocked slightly higher. If the leak indications are to be believed, we're looking at a maximum clock rate of 3.09 GHz, followed by three Gold cores clocked at 2.42 GHz and four efficiency Silver cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. GPU and modem capabilities may not change much. Asus may be looking to claim bragging rights to be first to market with the Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset, but it's rumored to be followed soon by the Lenovo Legion gaming phone and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series. Qualcomm may withhold the announcement until the ROG Phone 3 becomes official. The deleted ROG Global tweet could be a case of sharing information too soon and not incorrect information. It clearly says "the latest Snapdragon 865" and the reference image also shows the Plus symbol. This spec comes as no surprise as Asus has always delivered the best possible chipsets in its ROG Phones, sometimes in the form of a Plus model or through overclocking. With the presentation in about two weeks, we expect more details about the Asus ROG Phone 3 to emerge, officially or unofficially. It could be associated with Zenfone 7 which will be the next member of its flagship range.
