Apple's Studio Display has a major problem, but luckily there's a quick fix

Apple admitted to a problematic audio glitch on its flagship monitor (opens in a new tab), but revealed that hopefully there's a simple fix.

Studio Display has been criticized for its improved smart features, which sometimes seem to cause more problems than they solve.

The most recent set of issues involves intermittent audio loss, as noted by experts such as Michael Tsai, who collected evidence of the issue to submit to Apple.

Fixed studio screen

Apple's memo, obtained by MacRumors, admits that customers are experiencing issues with the product's speakers.

Fortunately, there is a simple solution, as Apple says that customers should unplug their Studio Display from power, as well as unplug any connected accessories or devices, wait ten seconds, and then plug the Studio Display back into power.

In the note sent to Apple Authorized Providers, the company added that the problem is not a hardware issue and notes that it could be fixed with a future iOS update.

expensive problem

Fortunately, the fact that a simple power cycle can fix this problem shows that while annoying, at least this problem is software based and not hardware based.

However, this software issue with a monitor brings back the conversation about whether it was really necessary to overdesign a monitor.

This monitor is reported to be running iOS 15.4, it has built-in hardware features that far exceed those of standard monitors. But with the issues that keep coming up, were these features worth it?

Some have speculated that with the inclusion of iOS 15.4, this is a dead iMac. Another idea is that these smart features could be used to take devices like the iPad Pro to the next level. Either way, the Studio Display honeymoon period has begun to fade for Apple fans, with some even going so far as to say that the Studio Display is redundant.

Sorry Apple, but my €1,599 monitor shouldn't have any software issues

Apple's goal with the Studio Display seemed to be for the Studio Display to replace a handful of peripherals in a modern desktop by integrating them into the monitor itself. This creates a more minimalistic and streamlined desktop and overall workflow. However, from the start, Apple was heavily criticized for its design choices, hardware integrations, and most importantly, its price.

Until a software fix for your iOS monitor is released, resort to the infamous "unplug it and plug it back in" solution.
