Apple discounts for students no longer require any type of verification

Apple reversed an unpopular change that would have required education customers to verify their eligibility to receive discounts on products like Macbooks.

The company recently introduced new rules that require buyers to prove they are studying or studying to qualify for discounts on a range of Apple products.

However, MacRumors noted that Apple is no longer requiring US customers to verify their status following a major pushback that appears to have forced Apple to turn around in just a few days.

While UK customers had to verify Apple Education purchases through services like UNiDAYS and Student Beans, in the US things were quite different: no verification was required to qualify for the 10% discounts on Apple Education. iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch and just about everyone else. Apple devices.

According to Apple Track, in addition to verification, customers were also limited to one desktop, one Mac mini, one MacBook, two iPads, and two accessories per year. The limit appears to remain in place despite the fact that the verification requirement was removed.

A central problem was that UNiDAYS, Apple's verification partner, was down for many education leads when Apple introduced the requirement. The problems particularly affected teachers, who had to provide a student card, which was clearly not possible.

Apple hasn't said anything publicly about the rollback, but tests show US customers no longer need to verify who they are to qualify. It's not yet clear if Apple is working to reintroduce verification in a different way.

The current system is still fairly easy to operate, and in some cases doesn't even require a .edu email address. Since many Apple products are expensive, getting a 10% discount is very, very attractive.

Some have pointed out that Apple's 10% discount is often outbid by outside retailers during school shopping season, something to keep in mind when shopping for Apple products.
