Apple could launch two new Macs at WWDC 2022, including a MacBook Air

Apple is set to launch a couple of new Macs at WWDC, or so is the theory put forth by a well-known Apple leaker.

WWDC is taking place in early June (as a virtual online event) and in the latest issue of his regular newsletter, Mark Gurman informed us that he's heard two new Macs are likely to be revealed at the conference.

As 9to5 Mac reports (opens in a new tab), Gurman wrote (opens in a new tab): “Apple is gearing up to release new Macs in the coming months. What better place to do it than WWDC? It's the same place where the transition from Intel's Mac to Apple's own chips was announced two years ago.

“I am told that two new Macs will arrive in the middle of the year or early in the second half. One of them will probably be the new MacBook Air.

Regarding the mention of the redesigned MacBook Air (2022), the use of the term "probable" obviously indicates a degree of uncertainty as to whether this will actually happen.

If Apple reveals this new Mac hardware at WWDC, it won't actually go on sale until later in the year, as is often the case with a small gap between an announcement and the actual shipment of new Macs.

Gurman further reaffirms that Apple is offering a lower-end 13-inch MacBook Pro that comes to update the current offering, as well as a refreshed Mac mini and a 24-inch iMac, with Mac Pro and iMac Pro models also made by Apple. .

Analysis: New MacBook Air at WWDC 2022? we are not convinced

Does WWDC really seem like a good prospect to see the MacBook Air launch?

Debuting a MacBook Air here would seem like an odd choice, though it potentially lines up with what we've heard elsewhere from Apple rumormonger Ming-Chi Kuo. That is, the MacBook Air will most likely go into mass production at the end of the second or third quarter, although if it's the latter, the laptop may not hit shelves until after June.

We think the fall release of the MacBook Air (which was supposed to come with Apple's new M2 chip inside) seems like a better bet, especially since Apple's conference is, of course, aimed at developers, so you'd expect a product Pro (Mac Pro, MacBook Pro) to be more likely to appear. If you have Mac devices, really, given that WWDC has become less focused on hardware launches lately.
