Apex Legends for Nintendo Switch now available, includes optional crossover play

Apex Legends for Nintendo Switch is out now, bringing Double XP for the first two weeks, 30 free Season 8 Battle Pass Tiers, and the limited-time Legendary Pathfinder Skin of Robot Face: PATH The Switch version of Apex Legends offers optional crossplay and will run at 30 frames per second. This was revealed in an interview by developers Respawn and Panic Button with Famitsu and reported by Eurogamer. Apparently the game will run at 720p in docked mode and 576p in handheld mode. And both modes of the game will run at 30 frames per second. Players will also be able to use the aiming gyroscope in mobile mode, and the UI apparently makes that clear up close. The approach to making crossplay optional is great given that Switch players would be at a disadvantage when competing against players on other platforms. PC gamers not only have higher frame rates, but also more convenient controls, meaning Switch gamers may not want to compete with them. The other point of contention here is the higher resolution available to PC gamers which would certainly have an advantage over Switch gamers. The interview also mentions that the Apex Legends engine is the same as the console and PC version. Nintendo Switch support was brought into the game by the team at Panic Button who handled this port. You will likely need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to play as it is an online-only experience. However, the ability to play one of the best battle royale games anytime, anywhere is certainly enticing. It would also be nice to see if Apex Legends gets some Nintendo Switch-specific features, like a gyroscope that aims to help players line up that perfect shot. Time will tell, but we hope to hear more about the game soon. As of now, the Switch version of Apex Legends is live and available to download.
