AMD takes inspiration from Nvidia to cool its next-gen graphics cards
AMD changes the type of cooling solution it will use for its next generation graphics cards (with RDNA 2 technology), the reference cards move away from the blower type cooler and adopt axial fans - this is what Nvidia used. In fact, the new GPUs, which we briefly glimpsed in a slideshow from recent AMD Financial Analyst Day, certainly bear a passing resemblance to Nvidia's products at first glance. After this slide was seen (see below), AMD's Scott Herkelman, Vice President and General Manager of the Radeon Business Unit, confirmed to those speculating on Reddit: "There will be no fan benchmark for next-gen gamers. Then you're right." The fan design, which is used in current Navi graphics cards and indeed all models of late, with the exception of the Radeon VII, means that hot air generated by the GPU it is ejected from the back of the card, through the expansion slot, and out of the case. But it has come under heavy criticism from many for being a noisy and generally inefficient cooling system, to which many enthusiasts rejoice.

A dual-axial (or triple-fan) design - although the preview image shows a dual-fan card - means that heat is dissipated within the PC case, and AMD has previously stated that it was with the models of fan due to less tech-hungry concerns. users may end up with overheating issues due to poorly designed cabinet airflow. The argument boiled down to insisting that one fan design produced more consistent and reliable performance on AMD's reference GPUs. It's clear that AMD engineers have changed their minds on this idea. Note that this ties back to AMD's own reference cards - Radeon's third-party products already offer dual or triple axial fan designs, and AMD's other previous argument was that fans who can handle flow so effective from their PC they can simply buy one of these models. Regardless, despite AMD's reasoning above, it's clear that there have been complaints about the fan design (because of noise), and at least with newer generation Navi graphics cards, this will no longer be an option.
