AMD changes the type of cooling solution it will use for its next generation graphics cards (with RDNA 2 technology), the reference cards move away from the blower type cooler and adopt axial fans - this is what Nvidia used. In fact, the new GPUs, which we briefly glimpsed in a slideshow from recent AMD Financial Analyst Day, certainly bear a passing resemblance to Nvidia's products at first glance. After this slide was seen (see below), AMD's Scott Herkelman, Vice President and General Manager of the Radeon Business Unit, confirmed to those speculating on Reddit: "There will be no fan benchmark for next-gen gamers. Then you're right." The fan design, which is used in current Navi graphics cards and indeed all models of late, with the exception of the Radeon VII, means that hot air generated by the GPU it is ejected from the back of the card, through the expansion slot, and out of the case. But it has come under heavy criticism from many for being a noisy and generally inefficient cooling system, to which many enthusiasts rejoice. (Image credit: AMD / PC Gamer)
