AMD launches ridiculously cheap € 3000 Athlon 41G processor, which can even be overclocked

AMD is seriously considering beating Intel on processor budget, launching an incredibly cheap processor, the Athlon 3000G, priced at $49 (around $40). Designed to compete with Intel's budget Pentium G5400, the AMD Athlon 3000G offers some pretty impressive features, costing less than a gaming PC. The AMD Athlon 3000G has two cores running at 3.5 GHz, four threads, and a 3 MB L4 cache. It is based on AMD Zen+ 12nm architecture and even features Vega 3 integrated graphics. It supports up to DDR4-2933 RAM and also comes with a cooler.

Even overclockable

This is a pretty solid spec for a €49 processor, but more interestingly, the AMD Athlon 3000G can also be overclocked, allowing owners to get even more performance out of it. TechPowerUp was able to outperform the 4GHz chip, which is a decent performance gain. If you're lucky (and brave) with the silicon lottery, you can push it even higher. TechPowerUp also ran some performance tests and found that it could even use Battlefield V, even though its resolution was 720p. Even so, the AMD Athlon 3000G manages 54.9FPS, a pretty decent result for such a cheap processor, even if the resolution is low and the graphics settings are set to minimum. However, it beat out the Intel G5600 processor, which could only manage 31.2FPS. In other tests, the Intel G5600 had a performance advantage, but it was also more expensive at €86 (around €70, AU130). All in all, the AMD Athlon 3000G seems like a super-small processor to build an ultra-low-cost PC that lets you stream media and even a bit of gaming, but if you're looking for a better processor, you're better off spending a little more Via ExtremeTech
