AMD recently showed off its new Ryzen 5000 processors, which use the company's Zen 3 architecture, but also gave us a preview of its upcoming line of RDNA 2 graphics cards, including the 'Big Navi' flagship. and it looks pretty awesome. One of the big themes of AMD's Ryzen 5000 launch was the quality of these processors in-game, and to prove it, AMD showed off benchmark results for its high-end 9-core Ryzen 5900 12X processor paired with an RDNA graphics card. 2. While we don't know which AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics card was used in benchmark tests, we imagine it will be the flagship ``Big Navi'' GPU. Because? 4K power
According to benchmarks presented by AMD, the Radeon RX 6000 series GPU and Ryzen 9 5900X combo appear to be capable of handling some of the most graphically demanding PC games with their highest graphics settings in 4K resolution ( 3840x 2160).
Thus, Borderlands 3 in its ``Badass quality'' hits 61 frames per second (FPS). Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at Ultra Quality hit 88 FPS, and Gears 5 also scored 73 FPS at Ultra Quality.
If you plan on gaming with a 4K monitor or TV, AMD's Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs seem like great options, though we don't know the exact specs and pricing details yet, which they are rather. , which is important. Hopefully, we'll know more on October 28, when AMD hosts another event to show off its GPUs in full.
Meanwhile, Tom's Hardware compared these results to benchmarks taken with Nvidia cards to get an idea of how AMD's GPU stacks up against 4K. As the website points out, the test rig they used uses an Intel Core i9-9900K processor, so these won't be the same, but the benchmarks are mostly GPU dependent anyway. so that it always gives us an idea.
According to Tom's hardware tests, the AMD Big Navi card roughly matches the Nvidia RTX 3080 in Borderlands 3 at 4K using the ``Badass Quality'' setting. However, perhaps unsurprisingly, it can't compete with the beastly RTX 3090, which scored a whopping 69.1 FPS (versus Big Navi's 61 FPS).
However, with Gears 5 at 4K, the Big Navi GPU struggles to match the RTX 3080, which scored 79.6 FPS compared to AMD's score of 73 FPS. Once again, the RTX 3090 leads the way with 87FPS.
So it looks like AMD's flagship GPU will be roughly on par with Nvidia's RTX 3080. Does that mean AMD's dream of having an "Nvidia killer" GPU is over? Not entirely, as there are a few things to keep in mind.
First, as we said above, these are not direct comparisons. A fairer test will be testing all GPUs using the exact same test hardware, and that's something we'll do when we get our hands on AMD Radeon RX 6000 GPUs for review.
Second, we don't know which RX 6000 GPU was used. While this may be AMD's most powerful GPU, there's still a chance AMD might pick up an even more powerful GPU for a surprise demo.
Furthermore, as pointed out by Dr. His, “we still have a few weeks to go before launch and the team is working really hard to polish things up,” which suggests we may see better results with the final product.
Finally, we should also point out that we don't know anything about the price. If this GPU is significantly cheaper than the RTX 3080, while still offering comparable performance, that could be a game changer. In the past, AMD hasn't shied away from undercutting the competition.
Whatever happens, now is an incredibly exciting time to be a PC gamer.
