AMD's Winning Streak Will Continue Through 2020, CEO Promises

Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, shared her thoughts on the company's success. She is convinced that AMD will go from strength to strength in 2020.

Su said this, and many more, in an interview with VentureBeat after AMD's excellent financial results for the third quarter (which had the highest quarterly revenue in almost 15 years).

Responding to a question about how AMD intends to remain competitive, especially with Intel releasing new processors soon, Su made the obvious choice to highlight AMD's 9rd Gen Threadripper chips as well as the Ryzen 3950 XNUMXX headlamp product. make a grand entrance into the high-end consumer.

He went on to point out that the next generation 7nm mobile processors (Zen 2) arrived in early 2020 to improve laptop performance and concluded that all of this represented a "pretty strong portfolio", before adding: "We've made a lot of progress with Zen 3. As a result, also for 2020, a lot of product activities, and while 2019 was a great year, I think 2020 will be an even bigger product year for us."

Not just Ryzen desktop and desktop processors but also Epyc processors which Intel really cares about in the data centers and of course in the console world where AMD is at the same time the consoles of new generation from Microsoft and Sony (machines arriving in 2020).

Smart movement

And in the world of smartphones, of course, we recently heard that Samsung could integrate AMD's radeon graphics cards into its phones in just two years. Responding to a question about the fact that it was an exciting opportunity, but whether it was an intellectual property license or supplying chips to Samsung, Su replied, "To think about it, we want Radeon graphics to be everywhere. Any place means in the data center, in games, on computers, on consoles, as well as mobile.”

And indeed, it looks like this will be the case well into 2020 (and probably 2021 for smartphones). According to Su, "partnering with Samsung is just a licensing opportunity, it's also a licensing and development opportunity, where we jointly optimize our Radeon graphics cards for low-power applications." .

Of course, you expect the CEO of a company to maximize the prospects for their business, but it's hard to dispute the fact that AMD continues to make progress in all of these areas of hardware.
