Amazon Music Unlimited adds Dolby Atmos spatial audio at no ancillary cost
Amazon Music listeners see their subscriptions soar as Dolby Atmos and Sony's XNUMX Reality Audio launch on the streaming service on iOS and Android devices. The best part is that the update is free for existing subscribers. Users can try out these new spatial audio options with headphones and earphones they already have, without the need for singular auxiliary peripherals. If you prefer wireless speakers, you're in luck as spatial audio has also been added to Alexa Cast-enabled products like the Amazon Echo Studio. The service will add and remaster music to its extensive library with music from the likes of Alicia Keys, Coldplay, Lil Nas X and much more mixed in Dolby Atmos and XNUMX Reality Audio for an enhanced listening experience. On top of this, an upcoming Imagine Dragons EP will only be released on Amazon Music Unlimited in November, which has been specially mixed in Dolby Atmos.

Analysis: a real advantage over the competition?

Amazon Music Unlimited has intensified competition from music streaming services by offering spatial sound through iOS and Android devices at no additional cost. Its biggest contender, Spotify, doesn't currently offer Dolby Atmos or other spatial audio options natively (although you never know what might happen with the soon-to-be-launched Spotify HiFi). The next best option for Spotify users in this regard is to listen to the streaming service on an iOS XNUMX device with two AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, both of which support the feature and can listen to any audio source. Being able to test spatial audio formats like Dolby Atmos on any pair of headphones is also a huge plus for customers who might not be willing to shell out for an expensive new pair of cans. The fact that the feature is now free on your device of choice, and without the need for expensive equipment, is a real advantage of Amazon Music Unlimited over Spotify. However, Apple Music also offers free spatial audio options for subscribers, which is also available on iOS and Android devices. So while the spatial audio options are indeed robust on Amazon Music Unlimited, it's certainly not the first music streaming service to offer it. Today's best Amazon Music Unlimited deals
