After Laptops, Realme To Launch Android Tablets In India
Earlier today, we got confirmation that Realme will move into the laptop segment next. Soon after, new tweets suggested that the company was also preparing to launch tablets in the Indian market. Earlier this year, Realme announced that it would launch more than 100 products in 2021 and create an ecosystem of connected devices. It also meant entering many new product categories, outside of the usual crowd of smartphones, headsets, and wearables. In a series of tweets, Francis, the CMO of Realme India, talked about tablets as a segment and even asked his followers to suggest names. In the latest tweet, he added a poll, asking users to choose between "Realme Tab" and "Realme Pad" as the name of the next tablet. As of this writing, the two are tied at 50% of the vote each. The entry into the laptop and tablet space is likely due to the rise in content consumption, remote work and e-learning in India, which has led the segments to show strong growth over the past year. For its first tablet, we expect Realme to launch an affordable mid-range device. India doesn't have many offerings in this space, with the most popular options coming from Samsung and Lenovo, as well as some next-gen products from Huawei and Honor. Even Xiaomi pulled out of the launch slates. Notably, no other brand in the BBK group (Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus) has released a tablet or laptop, which has always been a good starting point for what an upcoming product might look like. The drop in demand for tablets is also due to the increase in the size of smartphones, making a device slightly larger with less redundant capability for most users. But with the market about to hit a tipping point and much less competition, Realme could become a winner in the tablet market.
