Activision Discusses Warzone 2 Reveal

Activision has confirmed that a new Warzone is being "built from the ground up" and will be revealed later this year.

The news comes from the publisher's first quarter financial statements and it certainly sounds like a rumored Warzone 2 rather than a Warzone expansion or redesign.

Activision says it's being created alongside Modern Warfare 2, which would be set in the drug war against Colombian cartels. With Warzone currently featuring the arsenals of various Call of Duty games from different eras, it's easy to expect more crossovers with the latest Modern Warfare.

The new Warzone will continue its free-to-play model, which will no doubt keep it competitive against other heavyweights like Apex Legends and Fortnite. What is not yet clear is what future awaits the original Warzone if a sequel replaces it.

As VGC reported last year, it's possible Warzone 2 will get its own full-size map when it launches, similar to Verdansk.

Some of the other leak rumors surrounding Modern Warfare 2 have suggested a new game mode like Battlefield 2042's Hazard Zone. It's quite possible that this PVP/PVE mix is more for Warzone 2, which seems to be a bit different from the style Warzone run and gun game.

Regardless of how its future approaches, Warzone is getting a monster-sized overhaul later this year.
