A Reddit user has indicated how much AMD is currently outperforming Intel

It's no secret that AMD is seeing a dramatic increase in popularity and sales, but we've just seen an analysis that really puts AMD's recent victories in perspective.

Recently, through the German retailer, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and AMD Ryzen 5 3600 have outsold the Intel product line, and this is not new. That alone would be enough to assert AMD's dominance, but netizen Reddit Ingebor has collected a wealth of sales data from Mindfactory illustrating how much AMD has progressed over the past decade. .

Based on this data, AMD has outperformed Intel in terms of the number of processors sold since late 2018, but that hasn't exactly translated into increased fundraising by AMD. This is likely due to the fact that Intel charges a lot more for its processors on average. Reddit user Ingebor has included a chart showing the average selling price of each processor and Intel is much higher over the years. So even though AMD sells more processors, it doesn't generate more revenue.

Until recently, that's it. According to the billing graph, AMD has recently seen a sharp increase in its billing (and the average selling price of its processors). The graph is not labeled by month, but it appears that the peak occurred when AMD launched its 9rd-gen Ryzen range, powered by the Ryzen 3900 XNUMXX.

At present, it does not appear that Intel will resume its leadership position in the desktop processor market, at least until Team Blue launches its line of desktop workstations. 10th generation. Rumors are circulating that XNUMXth Gen Cascade Lake-X processors should be out, but such HEDT chips are unlikely to take over Intel's market dominance.

Why is AMD doing so well?

AMD released its first generation Ryzen processors in early 2017, which is quite true when we see the first spike of this red line across all three graphics. Previously, AMD relied on its struggling Bulldozer processor architecture, allowing Intel to dominate the desktop processor market with little to no competition. AMD Ryzen might have been a coincidence, but Intel has released more and more Skylake optimizations, rather than innovate, which has allowed AMD's Zen architecture to take over.

With each new release of AMD Ryzen, we see AMD gain market share, with a further increase in 2018 with 2nd Gen Ryzen and an absolutely stunning increase this year with 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen.

Intel will be launching a new Coffee Lake Refresh chip with the Intel Core i9-9900KS processor and while it will probably be sold at 5.0 GHz across all cores, it will be a small piece of fast silicon, but we really don't think not. it will be enough to reverse the trend. However, if Intel manages to bring some of Ice Lake's efficiency and artificial intelligence features to public desktops without significantly increasing the price of its silicon, we could see The Blue Team begin to regain dominance.

And we sincerely hope that something is really happening. It's nice to see AMD offering Intel the long-awaited competition, but the last thing we want is for AMD to fall for Intel-like indulgence. When the market for PC components is competitive, everyone wins. So we want nothing more than Intel to implement some dreaded processors. We just have to wait to see what the XNUMXth generation has in store.
