Your iPhone calls will soon sound as good as WhatsApp calls

Apple's iOS 16.3.1 update brought basic bug fixes to iCloud and Siri, but the company's next software patch, iOS 16.4, should introduce more tangible improvements to the way your iPhone handles calls. tareas cotidianas.

Among the features expected to arrive with iOS 16.4 are voice isolation; a neat little tool that blocks out ambient noise during cellular calls to prioritize your voice quality. In other words, soon you'll be able to hear the person you're talking to on the phone better, and they'll be able to hear you better, too.

Voice isolation has actually been a feature that has been available for some time on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls, made through apps like WhatsApp, but Apple says (opens in new tab) that the tool will finally catch iPhone cellular calls running iOS 16.4, which is expected to start rolling out "later this spring" (in other words, between March and June 2023).

Apple has also confirmed that Voice Isolation will be supported on all iPhone models released alongside the iPhone SE (2020) or later, so all major iPhones seem set to get this useful feature.

Once iOS 16.4 arrives, Voice Isolation can be turned on by swiping up from the top right of the screen (to access Control Center), tapping Microphone Mode, then Voice Isolation. Fortunately, the feature will remain active for future calls, so you won't need to repeat the above process each time.

Other features expected with iOS 16.4 include push notifications for web apps, a ton of new emoji, an improved Podcasts app, and bug fixes for Apple HomeKit.
